It isn't as "simple as that" at all. Lamela is a direct replacement for Bale. Even with Lamela, we still need a creative playmaker.

I personally don't think we need willian yes he adds some creativity but we are not in dire need of creativity and we can't say we are based on the first game of the season. Saying we need him is wrong he was an opportunity because of Anzhi wanting to sell players and pretty sure that without him we will do pretty well also don't forget chadli is pretty creative plays cm for Belgium and we have holtby who at one point last season was at the top of the bundesliga assist chart.Despite that i am convinced he will join he'd be an idiot to join chelsea with there dozen of other attacking mids

I honestly don't know why chelsea need him they have about 8 attacking midfielders already and have brought back de bruyne from loan and signed van ginkel and schurlle. It just doesn't add up to me. If roman is just doing it to get one over on us then it's pathetic and shouldn't be allowed. A lot of Chelsea fans don't want willian anyway.

They might sell some. Who knows. It's perfectly allowed.

It's almost certainly done to screw us over more than improve them. If we got Willian we'd be serious contenders. They won't care if they've got several similar playmakers, they will offload a couple...not to us...and be no worse off while they also will know they have achieved the goal of making sure we are no better.

This, they know that we have built a strong squad and a player like Willian could be the final piece to our puzzle. If they stop us from getting him then that puts a spanner in our works and what's €40m to roman if it means they'll have a better chance to retain their cl status.

Look what they've done with all their loans, they buy so many players and just loan them all out so nobody else can buy them, like Courtois who is now spending his 3rd season on loan at Atletico

Of
At the end of all of this I don't think you can really blame Willian. Doesn't seem like it's necessarily his choice.

If it is, it's a team hoping to possibly start going for more than a top 4 finish or a team that has been top 4 for a few seasons in a row, title challengers with a world class manager and CL football. Won't be playing week in and week out but with the amount of games they'll be playing he'll play a bit
Of course he bloody well has a choice !

Whilst I agree we don't necessarily need Willian, I do think we need a real creative livewire in the team. Sig doesn't look up to it and Holtby is still young and needs time imo. Chadli looks good but time will tell there.

Right off to bed. Nothing will be confirmed now so it's just going to be more frustrating. Good night

Even if they were losing Mata, they still have Oscar who has been brilliant in the middle, De Bruyne (also been brilliant) can play there as well. Both those players have higher ceilings than Willian in my opinion. Out wide they still have Hazard, Schurrle, Moses and obviously De Bruyne can play out wide. It just doesn't add up even if they are losing Mata in my opinion.

I think Mata is quite a bit better than Oscar tbh (though Oscar is very good). I also think Willian is probably a better player than either Oscar or De Bruyne as well.

I can see the thinking behind them getting Willian tbh, because neither Oscar or Mata are that pacy and I think Jose would ideally want a very fast front 4 to set them up as a deadly counter-attacking side. Willian, Hazard, De Bruyne, and Rooney would accomplish that.

I would totally agree with you if it weren't for Chelsea declining to comment on it.

I'm sure agents and certain football people use each other for leverage all the time though. I'll rub your back etc...

Although I do agree, it doesn't look great.

Maybe it's a play from Mourinho in order to get Rooney to Chelsea. Force his and Uniteds hands in the matter? It's the only possible positive spin I can put on this.

Avb must be fuming, he must realise (willian) that he will struggle to get in the lineup along with the other myriad midfielders they have

I know one thing for sure - I would not have suffered so much if I had not known about the transfer rumour ITK threads on SC! :clown:

Maybe thats why they bid when they did - to flatten us

Edit: (quote didnt work - in regard to waiting this late to bid, if they somehow knew we already agreed to sell Bale)

I really like Eriksen, but he isn't on Willian's level. No way.

That's just the reality of it, so lets not delude ourselves.

He would be an upgrade on Siggy though.

As a central playmaker behind the striker he is. Willian is a utility wide player. They both do different jobs.

I'd say their comparable in terms of vision, touch, and passing but what sets Willian apart is the pace and trickery he can use in the wide areas to get behind a defense.
