Listen fella's (and fellators of course) I posted these stats in the Jenas thread. I can't remember if I posted them in here. I'm not getting all stato on you - I know I've posted a few sets of stats lately - just that maybe like me some of you haven't seen that much of Wilson "Hammersmith" Palacios. I looked up the stats to compare him and Jenas and Zokora but only posted the Jenas comparison. Here's the three:

----------------------------------Palacios------------Jenas-----Zokora

Goals-------------------------------0-------------------2----------0
Assists------------------------------0-------------------3----------0
Min per tackles won--------------32.3---------------38.5-------52
Total tackles per min-------------21---------------29---------33
Min per Attempts created--------79------------------60--------108
min per pass-----------------------2.3----------------1.6--------1.9
Total passes----------------------735-----------------868-------853
Accurate--------------------------605-----------------764--------731
success %-----------------------82%----------------88%-------86%
Minutes played------------------1747----------------1463------1630

As you can see Palacios is clearly the best tackler of the three. Jenas the best at retaining possession and attacking. Those Jenas stats are fucking impressive by the way.

Personally I'd suggest Palacios would be a better replacement for Zokora's deeper DM type role than Jenas who is clearly a very valuable asset to a team.

I like Zokora but if Palacios can provide the defensive stability and tenacity we lack then he would be better paired with Jenas, Modric or Huddlestone depending on the game and tactics etc (442, 451 433 etc).

My bottom line is this: I haven't seen anywhere near enough of Palacios to rave about him, but based on what I've seen I'm pretty happy with this piece of business.

I don't give a fuck if he doesn't pass like Hoddle. What we've lacked since David's brief stay was a tenacious busy ****. And he looks a bit like one to me.

Could be we've signed a very, very round peg for a very very round hole.

Shouldn't base your opinion on stats.

At wigan,Palacios was the creativity in the centre of midfield. The stats don't show it,but most of their attacks start through him(e.g spreading the ball to wingers). I think Zokora will play Cattermole's role(run around like a headless chicken). Basically Palacios is a better version of Jenas(better defensive attributes and a better passer-plays more adventerous passes too).

Alot of money..but worth it...just wonder exactly WHY Wenge didnt take the punt on him all them years ago....

Probably because as I recall it was last season and he already had Fabregas, Flamini, Gilberto, Diarra, Diaby and Denilson.

Why Alex McLeish let him go for almost nothing from Birmingham is another interesting question.

What stat is that? Total tackles per minute is what i'm reading it as?!?!? That can't be right

Yeah, sorry it's minutes per tackle, I'll edit.

Yes, because you've scanned this forum and found the only post I've ever made about Jenas was his stats.

How about this post a few days ago:

I just think that some of you have a completely unrealistic perspective of our situation.

You talk about Jenas's (and Zokora for that matter) deficiencies and exactly what he should be doing as if midfielders like that are ten a penny. Jenas would absoloutely fucking stroll into 16 teams in the EPL.

The midfielders that are better than him are either uber specialists like Lampard and Gerrard (neither of whom have his defensive qualities or pass completion percentage and both play in a 5 man midfield to compensate) Fabregas, Essien, Maschareno, Gattuso, Pirlo, YaYa Toure etc etc.

You are talking about the top drawer CM's. They are all playing for the top clubs of Europe. Which is why, despite having plenty of money to throw at the situation, we have been unable to better Jenas for 4 years.

And the comparison with Modric is silly. They are different players. Modric is only truly effective when his responsibility is reduced with the support of two CM's behind him.

You really need to get your heads out of your arses, I haven't seen a better allrounder in central midfield for us since perhaps someone like Ricky Villa who was far less consistant than Jenas, or maybe Paul Allen ?

I challenge you lot to list the best players of Jenas's type over the last 30 years to wear our shirt. It's a fucking short list.

YES!!! GET IN!!

Just read this now, great news!

YID ARMY!

Welcome aboard Wilson!

What number will he get?[/quote]

Just what I was going to ask Milkman. My money is on 28 (don't think anyone else has it) - believe he may have had that number previously at either Wigan or Birmingham (remember seeing a photo somewhere on one of the transfer forums). Unless someone leaves before close of transfer window, in which case (based on some of the rumours that have been circulating) it could possible free up: 6 (Hudd to Hamburg); 8 (Jenas to Milan); 10 (Bent to....); 15 (Ghaly to Saudi Arabia); 21 (Sanchez to Valencia).

Sorry I like him and think he'll be a success but in that vid he just looked like Zokora

I don't see that. In that video:

He tackles. Zokora doesn't.
He makes good forward passes. Zokora doesn't.
When he makes runs, if tackles, he outmuscles the challange. Zokora falls.
He is never out of position. Zokora often is.

There are two similarities, in that he helps his defence a lot, and he isn't great in the final third. But other than that, he is a more powerful, tougher player than Zokora and more intelligent as well.

Except that he has a much better passing range and always manages to keep the ball moving rather than hold on to it and kill moves.

I watched that game v Man City and I don't really think that video does him any justice. It was uncanny how he appeared to be always in the right place. That for me is the thing that stood out compared to watching Zokora, that and the fact he doesn't panic on the ball, has an excellent range of passing, is stong as a bull and can tackle. Harry's thoughts:

'Palacios is suspended — he likes tackling you see, so I don’t know if he’ll be any good in our team'

I just watched the ManC and ManU videos and was surprised at his excellent all round ability. He really seems to be the complete midfielder. His confidence and calm when under pressure was quite exceptional, but so too were his athleticism, tackling, passing and reading of the game. I can see now why Palacios was compared to Roy Keane on the ManU fansite....and why he is nicknamed the magician.
