It is inevitable Wilson will pick up his 10th yellow card soon triggering a two match ban. Ive been looking at our fixtures and if he can just be good for the Fulham and Blackburn games then get booked versus Stoke he will miss Pompey and Sunderland.
Hopefully Tom will be fit by then, the only worry would be if we need a replay with Fulham that would mean him going three games without a card.

I think we can smash Blackburn at home Wilson or no Wilson, so I'm quite happy for him to kick Danny Murphy in the 89th.

It's a 2 match ban if he picks up 10 yellows between the opening day of the season and something like the second weekend in April, he will have already served a 1 match ban for getting 5 yellows before the end of February. If he gets to 15 before the end of he season he will get a 3 match ban.

In my opinion the rule should be something like if you get 5 cards in your first 15 appearances you get a 1 match ban, 10 in 30 appearances and you get a 2 match ban and 15 in 45 appearances and you get a 3 match ban. Currently the rule disadvantages those teams who make it to the later stages of the cup competitions, especially those who have to play numerous replays.

I was basing my thread on Harry's comment that he was on 9 yellows along with all the injuries. Unlike Harry to get the details wrong!
This could be worse as he could get his ban v Arse+Chavs.

I'm pretty sure the rules changed this year, and that 10 yellow cards now, because he had only reached 4 before the cut off, will only result in a one match ban.

Hope you are right but I've read differently, if so go for the Pompey game especially since their best player cant play us.

Interestingly Wilson not only managed to avoid picking up a yellow against Everton, but didn't even commit any fouls.

I am completely confused, the Disciplinary Procedures section of the 2009/2010 FA Handbook seems to imply that no ban will be handed out at all because he didn't receive five cards before the end of December:

EDIT: Having reread it I guess the warning given in rule (ii) would count as the disciplinary action as required in rule (iii), therefore he would be subject to a two match ban as per rule (iv), so the answer is either none or two, but definitely not one.

2009/2010 FA Handbook said:
8. PUNISHMENTS – Relating to First Team Competitive Matches

(a) CAUTIONS ADMINISTERED ON THE FIELD OF PLAY

(i) If a Player accumulates five cautions in FTCM between the opening day of the Playing Season and 31 December (including any FTCM played on that day) in the same Season, he will be suspended automatically for a period covering: - One First Team Match

(ii) If a Player accumulates five cautions in FTCM between the opening day of the Playing Season and the last day of the same Season, he will be: - “Warned as to his Future Conduct”

(iii) A Player who has already been subject to disciplinary action as a result of receiving five cautions and then proceeds to receive a further five cautions during the same Season, will be subject to the following punishments: -

(iv) If a Player accumulates ten cautions in FTCM between the opening day of the Playing Season and the second Sunday of April in the same Season, he will be suspended automatically for a period covering:- Two First Team matches

(v) If a Player accumulates ten cautions in FTCM between the opening day of the Playing Season and the last day of the same Season, he will be: -
“Severely Censured and Warned as to his future Conduct”

(vi) If a Player accumulates 15 cautions in FTCM between the opening date of the Playing Season and the last day of the same Season, he will be suspended automatically for a period covering: - Three First Team matches

(vii) A Player who has already been subject to disciplinary action as a result of receiving five, ten and 15 cautions, and who goes on to receive 20 cautions in FTCM in the same Season, shall be required to attend a meeting of a Regulatory Commission, within seven days of the date of the last caution. The Members of a Regulatory Commission will have the power to deal with the Player in such manner as they deem fit. The same procedure will apply for every further five cautions received by that Player.

(viii) Any period of suspension arising from cautions will commence forthwith. The suspension will cover all approved First Team matches until such time as his Club’s First Team has completed the number of matches appropriate to the punishment in approved Competitions during the period covered by its opening league match and ending with the fi nal match in which the Club is playing in an approved domestic Competition.

(ix) Any period of suspension or part thereof which remains outstanding at the end of a Season must be served at the commencement of the next following Season.

so he should take a card vs Fulham, to miss Blackburn, i respect Blackburn but we can't miss WP vs the likes Stoke or April games.

i would be satisfied with this vs Blackburn :

Niko - Kaboul - Livermore - Modric
Gudjhonsson - Defoe/Pav

After the deadline of the 31st, everything is restarted. So at 10 yellows he will get a one game ban.
