Yeah, essentially what Ange is looking for is similar to the All Blacks famous "no dickheads" selection policy.
Haha, where has that "famous" selection policy come from?

Just off the top of my head, I can think of Andrew Hore, Ali Williams, Zac Guilford and Byron Kelleher that are some of the biggest dickheads in sport that regularly played for the All Blacks.

A couple of years ago, Shannon Frizell was arrested for assaulting a man and punching a women and he is in the AB squad for the current World Cup.

As Barney Ronay famously said:

"Against all odds, the brains behind the All Blacks successful “no dickheads” policy would appear to be, on the face of it, a bit of a dickhead."

I doubt it would be realistic in Jan but Mitoma would only have about 18 months left on his contract and he could be sensational in an Ange team IMO.
He could always sign a new contract before next summer 2024 but as that would significantly impact his chances for a good move in the next few years I wouldn't be too surprised if he moves in either one of the two upcoming windows.
I always thought he was unrealistic too but i didnt know he had less than 2 years left on his deal. When you also consider he is 27 in May it might not take a Caceido type fee to sign him.
Either way, Ange has spoken about his admiration for him already and if he has us ahead of schedule come January with a Perisic shaped hole in our LWF options , it could be a move we make to back his vision.

Probably depends on where Brighton are in the table and in the Europa in Jan. If they believe they have a good chance at CL places at that point I wouldn't be surprised if they'd require a Caicedo-type fee for him mid-season.

My #1 would be Mitoma, but might be unrealistic for the price (although pretty sure we could afford it if we really wanted to).

What about Jadon Sancho on a loan with option? He wont be playing for United and they'll want to get some of his wages off the book.
Sancho!? Are you having a laugh?

would love Mitoma but think he’d be way too expensive.

If a good loan deal for Sancho could be sorted I think it might be worth the risk as long as it was only an option to buy.

Maybe in January, but I think his contract ends in 2025, so if that is correct, he'll definietly be available and at a reasonable price, in the summer. We have a history of buying players with a year remaning on their deal as they tend to offer better value. Bissouma for £25 mill and Maddison for £40 mill are great examples and we only got them so cheap due to having just a year left.

For me, the 3 obvious targets for the left forward position are Mitoma, Eze (alson contract ending 2025) and Neto. I think any one of those 3 would be fantastic for us. Eze probably edges it for me, as he can also be cover for Maddison. Neto has a longer deal I think, so would more expensive. But we are fortunate in that it's going to be a rare thing in that it's an obvious position we need to improve on and there will be several top class, Prem proven, options available. Conversely, we need a CB, but there definitely isn't going to be a host of obvious top class, Prem proven, CB's on the market, especially with contract situations that favour the buying club.

Mitoma's not got long left on his contract. You would hope that we do the same as with Bissouma and just go to Brighton, offer what they want and get it done.

Can’t see us going for Mitoma or anyone as established. More likely to be Nusa or Kubo. Someone young and not going to cost near as much.

I’ve seen Santiago mentioned a lot recently. Unfortunately I haven’t had the time catch any of the U21 games this season. What’s his profile like? Seen he’s been amongst the goals a lot. Last I heard people weren’t convinced he would make it but seems to have had a turn around.
He's hugely impressed me. He never stood out to me in the past but he's playing with incredible confidence. Showing speed, skill, an eagerness to beat his man and can finish really well. He profiles more like a wing forward that wants to score than a tricky winger that wants set up others. If I had to pick a player to liken him to then I'd go with someone like Luis Diaz.

I think we will be prepared to spend on key areas, as our squad is much more solid now. In the summer we were often talking about a rebuild, but the reality is we were already 2 years into it and we are pretty well stocked all over, so don't need to spread our financial resources too thinnly. We are 2 or 3 quality acquistions away from really challenging. Since Paritici has been here we've signed Romero, Deki, Bentancur, Biss, Sarr, Udogie, Vicario, Porro, Maddison and VDV, in a short space of time. These are all quality first team additions and are perfectly at home at the top echelons of Prem football. So, I think we are now in a position, that if players of proven quality come along, that we can do the deal without leaving us short in other areas, which wouldn't have been the case until recently.

My worry is that we might look at deals like Richarlison and it puts us off paying big money for Prem proven players that you'd expect to just slot in and make us better, like Mitoma or Eze etc. But, imo, Richarlison was never the right player for a top side as he lacks the pace to be a killer wide forward like Mane, Salah, Son and Bale etc. For all Paratici's (and his team's) good work, getting it wrong (and he could still turn it round in the striker role) with Richarlison was a low point, as he clearly was lacking a key attribute in what has made the top performers in this league, in that position, successful. But, having said that, I think the success of Biss and Maddison and the fact Eze and Mitoma have short contracts, will allay those concerns.

Interview with his agent

Who was on him?
"The Bayer Leverkusen, liked it in place of Diaby. Then there was an interest of Tottenham and it is not a mystery that Giuntoli likes it, if he had stayed in Naples ... In the Premier League there was an attempt by West Ham, but he wants to get to an important level, preferring a second season to Sassuolo to confirm himself. With Dionisi he is growing well, he is well. Of course, next year is in the notebooks of the starters with level offers."
Think this flew under the radar a bit yesterday, Armand Lauriente would be a fantastic signing perfectly suited to the LW role.

Sancho comes with plenty of risk IMO

If we're considering a game changing signing, then my two would be Neto or Mitoma - neither of who will be available in Jan, let alone at anything other than a crazy fee

For now, I think a HG back up CB is much more sensible

Wouldn't say HG is an absolute necessity. Lloris, Hojbjerg, Dier, Reguillon, Perisic and possiblty GLC moving on sooner rather than later gives us a bit of wiggle room. Kelly looks a decent shout though from the bits I've seen.

Agree don't think we will pay up for Mitoma, but he would be absolutely ideal.

In Jan the priority has to be a CB, Lloyd Kelly or someone similar.

2nd priority a LW, depending on how Gil comes back from injury and if he is on fire under Ange or not. Don't think they'd sell him in Jan but a cheeky bid for Eze with 18months left on his deal could be good, if not then an under the radar pick like Nusa or Kuba etc could be the way we go, or we try and get Jota back from Saudi Arabia if he is interested in that.

I think that is all we would look at in January.

Beyond that if GLC or PEH go or longer term if Skipp is surplus to requirements then a new CM or 2 could be good, Gallagher, Hatate etc

And likely next summer I'd like to see us find a faster and better LB cover than Ben Davies as I think he will get exposed in our high line defending 1 v 1 so often but as of now he is an ok squad player/back-up.

In theory Sessengon should be able to cover LB or LW but I personally don't think he will ever make it with us, his hamstrings seem cooked and he's had plenty of chances to impress, just doesn't seem to have the physicality or mentality to make his mark on games unfortunately however incredibly he is still only 23 so if he could sort his injury issues out you never know with Ange what he could do with him.
