Because of Barca's financial situation, you can expect them to be strongly linked with any top class out of contract player. Most players are seduced by the brand, but the reality is that Barca are just recycling these players for a fee after a year once they're under contract.
We certainly need players to strengthen the squad, which was stated as much in August, also that it would take a few windows to get to where we needed to be. The simple fact is there'll be a Levy sized road-block in the way of getting business done early, plus he will likely look to negotiate loans with option to buy deals. On top of that, we'll have the pleasure of Tanguy's company and the headache of spending majority of the window trying to arrange a loan move for him to a Champions League team yet again.

I think with Nuno being sacked, Jota will be given a second chance with the new manager. Don’t see that now being a goer for us, even though it appeared it was maybe a fall back option for us.

Isn't part of the problem with Jota that they simply have no room to register him for their league matches as they have too many foreign players?

Sess contract ends next year unless we take up the option. Doubt very much we will do that, how much could we realistically recoup.
Not enough to cover his medical bills I’m afraid… 💸💸💸 Sad for him and all his injuries - I really had hopes for him! 😢

He’s still in their Champions league squad. I’m unsure if, domestic league wise, they are able to change mid season like European teams can. I would expect so but honestly have no idea.

The new manager may simply want to keep him for the CL games if he rates him. Either way, I’d imagine a new manager in would make it less likely he’s made available for loan/transfer rather than more.

Yep this is the one.

£42m release clause but with his contract running out and no new contract agreed yet they may take £35m or so in January if we offer it.

Game changer type signing for us, the perfect Ange winger and he can play both flanks so he could play in tandem with Johnson or Kulusevski.
Got any stats to back that up?

Sure, I’ve attached a screenshot of his DataMB profile.

Link to fbref profile here:

Based on the eye test, very much a two way winger, who can beat people both with momentum and from a standing start and is capable of delivering high crosses or low cutbacks from the byline.

Great acceleration and speed and as I said goes both ways which makes him unpredictable.

He is made for Ange’s system imo and his ball carrying, dribbling and creative stats back that up.

So now Gallardo is going there (💔) there were reports coming out of Argentina saying Jota is going to be one of 3 keys players for him. I don’t know how the registration works there, I know he isn’t currently but I wonder if like the uk they can change it in Jan. If they can I fully expect him to stay.

He is very very short, 5.4 ft, but he looks a fantastic talent. 5 goals and 2 assist in 13 games. Got his international call up recently. Real Madrid are supposedly already interested, in general he's been getting a lot of press of late. 22 year old right footed winger who can play on ether side. I think the hight issues will put us off but he doesn't seem to struggle physically like Insigne didn't who's the same hight.

This was an article in the Guardian that came out after his very impressive display vs Barca which is what started the hype train picking up steam after scoring 2 against them.

Does being very short matter more than being a bit short? Once you get under 5ft 8 as a winger you're probably not winning any headers anyway. Balance, centre of gravity and strength matter more

I guess it depends on how the manager likes his wingers physically. I agree that as long as you are strong and have excellent balance it shouldn't be a problem. That being said I could see PL teams being put off by it potentially. He does look a very exciting talent tho.

I think as part of a balanced squad of players with different physical attributes, it's fine. Especially in a team that wants to have possession and play attacking football. You just don't want lots of small players.

I've just read that they're changing their own rules to allow more foreign players. I mean, why even have any fucking rules? Laughable.

That’s hilarious, felt inevitable tho. They know the only way to get more people interested is to have as many imports as possible.

Yeah he's 5ft 4.5in so very small.
According to Transfermarkt he is 164cm (5 feet 4 9⁄16 inches).

Which measures up(?) to exactly 1 cm shorter than Aron Lennon; 3 cm shorter than Diego Maradona; 4 cm shorter than Gianfranco Zola; and a whopping 6 cm shorter than both David Silva and Leo Messi. Obviously those two Argentinians were never tall enough to play in England, but the other three had decent careers in the Premier League.

I certainly don't buy the narrative that we don't have much money to spend - I think we patently do but will choose our business very carefully.

We definitely have money. We were still trying to sign Gallagher and a centre back on the last day of the window and banked about £15m from Sanchez. Even thinking about it for less than 5 seconds tells us we do.

Anyway as usual, I'd rather sign the right player for £10 million than the wrong one for £40 million. Let's hope our scouting is as good as it was in the summer and we bring a couple in early like the manager wants (although I will believe that when I see it).

No one is going to get interested outside of a few player fan boys. It's nothing more than a brief distraction for the majority and I don't see that changing any time soon personally.
