Posting this here because I feel like it relates to us. Firstly we have been linked to him in the past. Secondly IF it did happen then that would obviously end their interest in PEH and finally thirdly even if it doesn’t happen because City want a buy obligation it would probably mean they would offer us the same terms for PEH which we would no doubt also refuse.

What you say is true. We do early deals all the time but the problem is it's rarely the key players that are desperately required, and it's not players that would/could make an immediate impact that are brought in early. It's usually prospects or "good financial/contractual deals" that are tied up quickly before others can gazump us. Porro was a good example of this last January. We were desperate from day one for a RWB and the whole world knew it, yet we got him on the final day, despite negotiating for the best part of 6 weeks.

This is what needs to change because a month of being short in a key area annoys the managers and costs points, which in turn costs more money than it saves.

This of course is more January specific than than the Summer window.
I will just add to this I'm quite confident we are trying to do that this January as far as CB is concerned at least.

Some more talk about Todibo here:

If this is true and he wants to join us we need to throw everything at it to get him. Absolute top talent CB and would give us insane depth as he's capable at both RCB and LCB.

With Davies also playing really well, we'd have 3 top class CB options and 1 good CB option.

Our depth would be superb.

So Todibo top target with Dragusin 2nd choice/viable alternative?

Getting Tapsoba/Van de Ven vibes again.

He’s obviously super keen to come as he got himself sent off the other night against La Havre. Clearly sending us a message.

Todibo is the dream. If we’re serious about competing under Ange he’s the one we want.

I just can’t see Ratcliffe at Nice selling him for that cheap though and I’m sure Utd will be interested too.

This is where the multi club ownership thing becomes so dodgy.

Even if Todibo wanted to join us ahead of Utd (I'm not saying he does), Ratcliffe could just refuse to sell to us and make Utd his only option.

and how has that worked out? Pretty well I’d say!
The tone I tried to take in my post was that I was sweet with either option so yes, agree with you.

The importance for me is securing either target earlier in January than dragging on into the final days.

I wonder whether we feel he can also cover RB as he's so comfortable in possession?

A bit like how Scum have multi-functional defenders like Tomiyasu and White etc which allows them more flexibility with their squad rotations and game time.

It's not as if he'd have to overlap out wide loads or anything. More just use his ball playing skills in narrower areas to progress the ball.

If we can't get our first choice targets, we should be considering some loan moves. Phillips would be perfect in this regard, I like him as a player, but anything more than a loan (with a buy option) signing would be a bit risky. Not sure City would sell/loan to us though.

Obviously CB transfer and then a CM (loan) and a winger. We need bodies in at this point.

Maybe even a 6 and an 8, as well as a LB cover (depending on Sessegnon).

Hoijberg shouldn't (can't) be sold in January and Skipp has to stay.

If we get any more injuries anywhere we are in serious trouble.

For me, go big on a CB get someone like Phillips and Jota (loans) and maybe that kid from Juve (LB/LW). If we can get Gallagher as well that'd cover us for the rest of the season.

In the Summer, I'd go big on a LW.

Another Bentancur/Kulusevski deal wouldn't go amiss.

You want Phillips in without either Hojbjerg or Skipp moving on? How would that work?

For me - its go early, or go home.

If we wait for the end of the window - it's too late, as most of the players we will be missing are coming back shortly after the window closes.

The only position we NEED is a CB.

Other positions - CM or winger - are luxury positions in this window, and we should only bring a player in if we can get them in early, or if they are a long-term buy.

Todibo does look like the right one to go for. He looks a level above Dragusin imo and would give us competition/rotation at CB without a major drop off. Three very good CB's and Davies + a youth option to rotate.

Todibo apparently had a few issues with his attitude at Barca. Obviously was quite young when he moved there and has apparently acknowledged his attitude wasn't right when he was there but must admit do worry if it could potentially be an issue especially if he is spending time behind Romero and VDV in the pecking order.

From 2021 so if we were to push ahead with him, hopefully we have done our homework and he has matured....

"Bruno Satin, the former agent of Barcelona defender Jean-Clair Todibo, revealed why the young Frenchman has not quite made the impact many expected.

Since joining the Blaugrana in 2019, Todibo has been unable to cement a place in the first team squad and has been sent out on loan twice, currently at Benfica, and Satin mentioned that the defender struggled to take advice from the club.

"We are happy with the work we did to bring him to Barcelona, but now I no longer take care of his interests," he told Calciotoday.

"He has a difficult character, he never listened to the advice that [Eric] Abidal, the sporting director of the Catalans, gave him.

"The club believed in him, but Todibo already believed that he was a superstar. That is why his adventure in LaLiga did not go well. He has great qualities, but what he lacks is humility.""

Branthwaite please

Really do like the look of this kid. Just has that something where he makes things look easy. Still only 21 but his ceiling could be huge. Don't know what the chances of him moving are but would be very happy if were to bring him in.
