You want Phillips in without either Hojbjerg or Skipp moving on? How would that work?
For me, yes... Phillips has an injury record and without Bentancur and Bissouma we need 2 imo.

Considering Ange hasn't played Sarr, Skipp or GLC at 6 I'd be surprised if he starts now.

That leaves only Hoijberg as a 6, which means we will need another one.

Also considering Bissoumas form and AN and Bentancurs injury issues, we'd be in a bit of a mess if we just have Hoijberg for the rest of the season.

The other option is relying on Skipp as a 6, but that'd leave us light in the 8 position.

For me - its go early, or go home.

If we wait for the end of the window - it's too late, as most of the players we will be missing are coming back shortly after the window closes.

The only position we NEED is a CB.

Other positions - CM or winger - are luxury positions in this window, and we should only bring a player in if we can get them in early, or if they are a long-term buy.

Depends if we sell anyone or do any loans. I agree, as things stand we need a CB but who knows what might happen with outgoings.

So Todibo top target with Dragusin 2nd choice/viable alternative?

Getting Tapsoba/Van de Ven vibes again.
Except this time the first choice is actually clearly the better player whereas VDV was and still is the better player out of the two.

IIRC the informed view was that VDV was still raw but had the higher ceiling, whereas Tapsoba would be more plug and play. As it turned out, VDV was plenty plug and play.

That wasn’t my view at all at the time and I made it pretty clear when everyone was moaning about us signing him instead. I’d watched plenty of both and was very adamant that VDV was the better player. Not really sure why anyone believed VDV wasn’t ready to come in and be a success straight away but here we are, he’s a beast and he’s ours to enjoy! Cannot wait for him to be fit again.

Any Utd interest in Todibo would likely stump us, partly due to the Ineos involvement at both clubs

Todibo apparently had a few issues with his attitude at Barca. Obviously was quite young when he moved there and has apparently acknowledged his attitude wasn't right when he was there but must admit do worry if it could potentially be an issue especially if he is spending time behind Romero and VDV in the pecking order.

From 2021 so if we were to push ahead with him, hopefully we have done our homework and he has matured....

"Bruno Satin, the former agent of Barcelona defender Jean-Clair Todibo, revealed why the young Frenchman has not quite made the impact many expected.

Since joining the Blaugrana in 2019, Todibo has been unable to cement a place in the first team squad and has been sent out on loan twice, currently at Benfica, and Satin mentioned that the defender struggled to take advice from the club.

"We are happy with the work we did to bring him to Barcelona, but now I no longer take care of his interests," he told Calciotoday.

"He has a difficult character, he never listened to the advice that [Eric] Abidal, the sporting director of the Catalans, gave him.

"The club believed in him, but Todibo already believed that he was a superstar. That is why his adventure in LaLiga did not go well. He has great qualities, but what he lacks is humility.""
So a non-starter for Ange then if that hasn't straightened out. I trust he'll get to the truth

Todibo, Jota and Philips in Jan - Todibo perm and the other 2 on loan and I think we'd be in great shape. Pipe dream probably but would love it to happen

I really don’t want Philips - he’s a mediocre footballer caught up in “homegrown” hype and took the money to sign for City and never play.

Really don't want Phillips. One great season at Leeds got him international recognition and a big money move. Since then he has done nothing.

Reminds me of Drinkwater.

He's not anything like you've described in my opinion. I'm not convinced he's right for us because I now understand we need a more technical player in that role and I think that's why he's struggling to get games at City also. As an out and out disrupter and screen for the back four he's probably the best HG option there is and will move and be a very good player for someone. For reference I don't think prime Makelele would have been much use to us either with what Ange requires our 6 to do.

With how Ange plays we are asking players to have very specific skillsets to play in certain positions. This is why I'm not getting too excited or worried about players being linked to us right now who are playing in teams that don't aske them to do said jobs. It's far more important to identify if any incoming players can play these niche roles over how well they are playing in completely different systems and philosophies.

I personally think Phillips is a very decent player and would suit our system as the 6.
I think he's good, but not sure if we should buy another dedicated 6. I'm leaning towards having more 8 options. When fit, Bents can play 6 if required, swap Hojlberg for an 8. Decide on GLC/youth options in the summer.

Was England's best player at the Euro's, and is excellent as a purely holding and screening 6.

Would Gallagher be seen as a 6 if we could get him out of Chelsea would you say?

Also, will the ITK thread be open soon?
