Barkley just came off for Kovacic after a very good shift. That’s what a decent central midfield with strength and depth looks like. These are the sort of options we need and must secure to remain competitive

What do people think about Lemina? he could be a decent Dembele replacement.

In a different world we got both of them in back to back transfer windows and are playing some badass football.

But don't forget Barkley sucks according to most around here.. I was so bummed we didn't get him. How good would that window have looked if we got Davinson, Barkley & Pereira?!

I want to live in that world.
It really is sad to look back on past windows about who Poch wanted/almost got... How different would this squad be with Barkley, Pereira, Batshuayi, Mane, or any of the CM's we were linked with this summer..

Weren't we nailed on to sign him?
Yes, but it got weird even by our standards. Chelsea eventually took him even though he was recovering from a nasty injury, and he’s been quitely impressive this season. He’s not the fulcrum or mainstay of their midfield yet but he’s doing a good job when he plays. Scored and assisted today, and was busy too.

January window looks more crucial by the day with our rivals looking good, we are keeping pace despite all our problems but feel like a fresh face in midfield could get us over the line in regards to top4.

Yeah he could have done a job for us. Talk about Shelvey when a young refreshed Barkley is what we needed.

It’s tricky. We clearly lack the dynamism of Chelsea, City and Liverpool, while Arsenal are playing sensible, effective football. That doesn’t mean we won’t become more fluid once key personnel return from injury but we are currently way below our usual standards. But we really need to inject some life into the squad though I can’t see it happening in January. It’s typically a difficult window to do business and we seem so ponderous getting deals over the line. I can’t see that happening when teams tend to expect more dollar in January

To me it seems you could probably pluck Sander Berge in January as it is a much weaker league and they may not be able to deny a move. No idea whether links late in the summer were legit or not but from videos the kid looks to be a real talent. Bring him in and ship off Wanyama if he can't get right would be a move in the right direction. Genk has pumped out some legit talent in midfield recently.

I can't decide whether it's a good thing that we are getting results despite playing poorly and we will improve or whether eventually our luck will run out but hopefully this enforced break for 5/6 members of our team will really inject some impetus but I'd love to see a midfielder signed in Jan.

Sander Berge isn’t a real person. He’s a consortium of Swiss investors laundering cash through the projected collective consciousness of football fans. I think

Interesting... I think the most important piece of it all is that coming from Belgium he may actually be affordable at a price Levy would actually pay..

Yes but you're forgetting the most important ingredient of any potential Spurs transfer. The backstory.

By law, any signing made by Tottenham Hotspur Football and Athletic Club Ltd must have a complicated back story that drags out their transfer well beyond any reasonable time frame. This is to ensure maximum fan engagement on associated message boards. Maybe Sander Berge doesn't actually have a back story, and so no transfer approach can be made.

Aw shit, forgot about that part. Genk need to be going through almost crippling bankruptcy for us to consider a low ball bid for 4 months before actually attempting to buy the player.

No matter how talented he is, if they asked 5m for him Levy would offer 250k and mess around until somebody else paid the asking price.

I truly wonder if even one time Levy has enquired about a player, they responded with a number and he thought - that's a reasonable value, alright lets move forward.
