De Jong is one of the brightest talents I've seen in a long time. We should go all out for him. If you needed proof, Barcelona and City are also being linked with him.

Diawara is a bit soft for me - I don' think he's aggressive enough.

Now that Moura's playing and firing up top and Son is back I'm not sure we need much more in attack.

I'd focus on our wing backs after CM. Grimaldo on the left, or Philip Max or Telles.

On the right I'm not sure, but there's got to be better to be had than Aurier. Or just sell him and promote KWP.

I just think we’re still too short in that area to simply dispose of him without bringing anyone else in. Winks is the only non defensive midfielder we have to play alongside a defensive one in Dier or Wanyama and I’m not putting Sissoko in the picture. To me it’s nothing to do with his service to the club but that I think we’d be shooting ourselves in the foot if we get rid, I don’t think we’re in a position to be lessening our options in centre midfield personally.

I agree, but assumed the poster I quoted meant selling Dembele with a view to replacing him.

You could compare Dembele’s situation with Ledley King who had much more severe injury issues and played on for 4 years after doctors told him to retire. For at least 3 of those years he continued to give us excellent service despite barely being able to train.

Dembele does not have as severe issues as Ledley. But there is a parallel. He has to be managed well, which I’m sure includes the intensity of his training, he clearly can’t play in every game but finding someone to replace him is almost as difficult as it was to replace King.

If all Dembele does for us is to come off the bench after 60 minutes to help us close out games when we are ahead or we need him to bring composure, organization and physical presence to our midfield then that can only be positive. It was a bad move by Poch to play him as our only holding midfielder against Watford but in the games against Newcastle and Fulham he was used as he should be. He also played well for the most part in the United game although you could argue that it would have been no less effective if he had not started that game and came on early in the second half. He can also help Winks become a better player and ultimately maybe his replacement.

So overall his contribution remains important until we find someone who can effectively replace him so why would anyone want him to leave before then ?

Thank you for your response. However, yet again, there's talk of him wanting out (China in January) and we all know that he's admitted he's struggling with the physical demands of the PL/Poch. I did point out, though, I wasn't digging at Dembele. I was just pointing out that it's understandable that sections of our support can understand a desire to replace him.

He bangs in goals for fun. However, it is mls. Worth a flyer at a certain price? Maybe. But the jump between mls and prem is absolutely massive.

Yeah to agree with that but could be worth a punt if the price is right ?

Nah punts on kids in Europe might be worth it, but the MLS isn’t anywhere near a standard that’s worth risking wasting money on

I must start watching MLS again as the last time I watched it regularly was when penalties where taken from the half-way line and you had to run towards goal. Is the standard really that bad? If you where to make a comparison would it be similar to The Championship, League One, League Two, The Conference, Scottish Premier League or Irish League?

If that's the case you can count us out.. And before people start telling me about Sanchez, yes I know.

I only catch when they show goals/short highlights on SSN, and some of the goals conceded are laughable

on the contrary my friend, the window went completely to plan. Issue bullsh*t rumours of a warchest- check. Sell out STs and cheese room- check. BSoDL insist we can only complain after the window has slammed shut on our noses- check.

We know that when we sell that pussy Eriksen, who couldn't tackle an empty crisp packet, the proceeds won't be used on the stadium to optimise the value of ENICs investment? Don't we?

Any reason in particular ? Not a bad player for A league standard but i think that's as far as he will go, Held his own against France in the WC though to be fair
Yeah because he's from my home town and i played with his brothers. haha

I think he could do a job in a few of the decent European leagues.

The only reason Moura wasn't more involved last season was the fact he only played 79mins when we signed him. if we do purchase anyone that has played for their team, they will see more minutes than what Moura saw.

I reckon a lot depends on where we are in the league, stadium and involved in the cups, with injuries, fatigue and players sold before we enter the market. if we are struggling for top 4, out of all cups, and struggle to sell Toby, Dembele and others then we won't sign anyone. if we sell anyone and are still involved it would be suicide not to try and replace unless a youth player is putting down a marker

I think the only way we will sign a player is if they are in a situation like Lucas. A good player, playing hardly any games at a club who don’t really want him and at a decent price. There won’t be many of those about and then if we do sign them they aren’t going to be up to speed physically.

We definitely need fresh blood but it’s the same as the summer. Get rid of the dross.

If we offload Dembele we need to get somebody in end of. Rabiot will only have 6 months left, maybe there could be a deal struck there! Likewise with Shaw if that becomes an option too. Play it smart, but you can only work with what’s available!

putting a view contrary to your own isn't whining or any similar verbs old bean. A bit of tongue in cheek in there, too which you might not have grasped.

I wasn't bothered about signings this summer. But in kicking the can down the road with our Belgians' contract situations Levy isn't going to be making it any easier for himself or Poch? I hadn't realised Jan has not yet signed an extension.

I like Tielemans for what it's worth. Shame we couldn't have moved in before Monaco did. Price probably too toppy now.

In that case you have my profuse apologies. With some of the knee jerk angst on here, it’s difficult to discern wry humour.

This might be the wrong thread, but what the heck . . . .

To compare the MLS to England, just look at some former Spurs players :

DeAndre Yedlin. Was an MLS allstar. Not up to Spurs level. Moved to NUFC when they were in Champ. league
Simon Dawkins. Loaned to MLS and played 2 years. Returned to play at Derby
Anton Walkes. Loaned to MLS and started games. Returned to play at Portsmouth

I'd put MLS on level with a Mid-level Championship team, but with some aging EPL stars and developing good So. and No Amer players.
