Ha, i guess if we want to bring the word realistic into the conversation then we should probably start looking at the free transfer market if Levy is envolved. Even tho agent fees would probably make him balk. Wilson and King are good ideas but both are 26, I’m not sure they would move to a team at this stage of their career to play second fiddle to Kane. Maybe, maybe not, depends on their personalities. Personaly I think we should look young, someone who is keen to learn but also has the ability to play alone or in tandem with Kane. The one thing Kane’s new tendency to drop deep has shown is he is probably ready to have a strike partner. As mentioned before, what City have with Aguero and Jesus is what we should have. Obviously the down side to that is we may need to look abroad. I know I keep banging on about him and we have probably missed the boat, but Genoa’s Piatek would be my choice, he’s 23 and still learning his game but has all the tools to be a fantastic CF in any league. He’s very clever and will take over the striker mantle from Lewandowski for Poland in due course I’m sure. If he makes the right moves. But even if not him, there are many other young forwards we could be looking at.
My worry with Piatek is that its going to be the same story as Belotti 2 summers ago. Genoa is going to ask for a crazy fee after one great season.

They currently value him at 35 mil euros which I think is incredibly reasonable In the current market. He may even have a release clause but don’t quote me on that. In general, once you look beyond the big teams in Italy, Spain and France the value drops massively. It’s why Torreira went for 26 mil. Everyone in Seria A knew how good he was but Sampdoria still sold him for, relative, peanuts. A lot of the middle to bottom table clubs can do a lot with that sort of cash and tend to like dealing fast so they can start recruiting.

Yep, and we don't ever shop there. Drives me crazy! The two CMs from Betis we should have been all over the last 2 years.

Both MOTD and SKY highlighted Morgan Gibbs-White's performance against us for Wolves. Looks a real talent at 18 years old. And home grown.

Being a downer (and realistic) we probably only have funds to go for one transfer, and if so, it has to be a dm. Wanyama is more or less finished and Dembele has quite drastically dropped in quality. We've been linked with Barrios, but that's another wildcard, bringing someone in from south america, knowing our new players usually need quite a lot of time to settle in. Assuming Ndombele is out of the picture I would have a go for Diawara at Napoli. Potentially world class that kid. With some luck, we could get him for 30-35M I think.

All this talk of this player and that player do you honestly believe we will buy anybody in January? I don't. If we were not going to buy anyone in the summer we certainly wont in January now we have had to find another 200mil for the stadium. Even if we sold 3 or 4 players that money would be swallowed up. The clubs priority is obviously the new stadium and I don't see any new players unless they are freebies coming in for a year.

I think Levy would be committing media-suicide if he didn't bring in a single player this window either. Especially considering Poch's comments 1 week or so back, when he said refreshments are needed to compete and improve the squad. Combine that with the fact that Wanyama has shown be completely shot. Even though we're talking about Levy here, I just cannot believe he would be so stupid to not see the general consensus around Spurs right now.

He's ignored supporters protests and suggestions many times so I don't see him being alarmed at what we or the media have to say.

It feels like I'm reading a comment from late July/early August

It's been said before but after the latest batch of injuries, our need for a DM/CM has become even more urgent. We simply have to find one in January.

Our current central midfield depth is non-existent. Wanyama injured (again), Dembele injured, Dier injured (don't know how long for). Just Winks and Sissoko left (and the youngster Skipp) with a very busy schedule coming up. One more injury and we are up shit creek without a paddle - if we aren't already.

I don't want to hear any excuses along the lines of "there are no players available" or "the January window is difficult". We are in this precarious position precisely because we sat on our hands last summer and now we have no choice but to rectify that massive blunder.

We also need a no. 8/CM and a left back but DM is the priority for Jan.

I would love us to get Rice but, even tho I think we could nick him, it probably won't happen until summer. Really, at this point, the most realistic and financially viable option for DM is Barrios. I'm sure we will have scouts in attendance at the superclasico.

I hope they make it out alive.

There should be a new rule in this thread - For every player you suggest that Spurs buy, you have to name a player(s) that Spurs will sell to cover the expense and roster spot.

So - if you want to bring in a CM/DM - you have to sell someone first.

And, with Dembele's injury, it will be difficult to move him on this January for any kind of fee. Same with Wanyama - though he may have more suitors.

You can sell Janssen, but that does not free up a roster spot - since he is not registered. GKN is registered in the league, and would free up one spot.

My list on the outs is Vorm, Wanyama, Dembele, Sissoko, Trippier, Janssen, Llorente, GKN, and you probably could throw in a LB or two. Thats 6 registered non HG players gone.

Vorm could go - but not for much money - but it should free up a non-HG spot - if Levy has extra money to spend.

Wanyama and Dembele are both possibilities - but injuries may scupper those plans.

Sissoko and Llorente - Sissoko is an oddity - with the current injury list, we can't afford to sell unless we have a PL-ready player to step in immediately. Llorente could go, but for not much money

Trippier - I agree here - but the player will have to agree to go, and the only way that happens is if Poch stops playing him...this is down to Poch.

If we really need money - the most likely to be sold is Alderweireld...these players won't bring in enough collectively to buy one decent CM/DM...
