No they don't, they used to but they don't anymore, not since the beginning of last season where we had 60-80k at Wembley every week. It is clear as day that ENIC have used the fans as a cash cow to build a property empire that they can flog to the highest bidder. Staggering to me that most of our fanbase still refuse to see this.

Liverpool , City , Chelsea and Utd do have higher turnovers than us. It’s staggering that you don’t know this.

There's no doubt that Levy is a great negotiator - he's got clubs to pay some outrageous prices for our average players - Wimmer £18m, the Sunderland triple package, etc - and we've signed some great players for peanuts - Lloris, Moura, etc. But if you are going to negotiate hardball-style, it's a high-risk strategy, and not everything is going to come off like it will if you have a blank chequebook. That's just pretty obvious.

His greatest successes with signings are the ones that he has leverage on, expiring contracts or release clauses, vertonghen, lloris, Trippier for example. obviously there are some exceptions, modric and Sanchez for example but when he genuinely has to negotiate for players at market value it seems he often falls short quite regularly, which I don’t think makes him a great negotiator. We’ve made some brilliant signings under him but I feel he regularly falls short when it comes to negotiating a deal at market value, all imo of course

United are in a different league and likely always will be, City and Chelsea yes but our turnover is now pretty similar to Liverpool, our spending on players and wages clearly isn’t.

the thing is all 3 clubs above us in the finance market have been paying vast amounts more wages, and getting really big turnovers for 25 seasons, and only 1 of those have built a new stadium. 2 more have bought the success paid triple our wages and for a lot longer had a massive turnover compared to us. we have made it for 1 season, building a stadium and training complex over the last 10 seasons, and paying crap wages.

I really hope ENIC do sell up, but 1 guarantee if they do and the next group that come in don't throw money at it and bring success then the same Levy moaners will moan on and on.

what I don't understand is where this £188m figure has come from @[email protected], I can't find the figures anywhere but amazing if we have been making that money and not been paying higher wages and have kept this team together, with 3 seasons of crowds of 36k and 1 with 28k, and still had to take massive loans out before the stadium cost doubled

But that is a different point to what I was discussing and you decided to join in on.

Why do people quote someone then discuss something not connected?

Financial information is published officially every year for everybody to see. 188M is probably referring to the aggregated operating profit of 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017. So that's profit generated from everyday business. Profit before interest and tax in the same period was 212M. This number takes into account player trades, which is not officially considered core business for accounting purposes (obviously, import/export IS a core business in the strategy, even if not in the accounts). Finally, looking at profit after taxation and interests, that's 100M pounds in the aforementioned period. Keep in mind that these figures were last updated per 30. of June 2017, so the assumed profitability of the 2017/2018 season is NOT reflected yet.

This is the wishlist thread chaps not the pro or anti Levy thread. We have enough of those already

Unfortunately the finances and our purchasing tactics is a large of determining who we could potentially buy.

So Levy will always become a part of the discussion.

That would be true in a thread called “Who might you reasonably think we should buy in Jan” thread. However, this is the wish list so I kind of agree with KotL here. The Levy debate gets everywhere and often derails an OP's original idea for a debate which is a shame.

I do agree but wish lists can be fantasy or based on reality.

The dream:
Modric
Two world class wing backs
De Ligt
De Bruyne

Or if you talk about players you want that could also happen then other factors, such as finance, will be brought into play.

According to the Mirror we are interested in Hirving Lozano. I really rate the kid and think he would be a good signing but really, we probably don't need another winger and really we need a CM more then anything. If Lozano can comfortably play upfront then maybe it makes sense. Still, fan of his so would hardly be upset. And it's the Mirror so probably bullshit, probably just scouting for our match.

So the clubs we are competing with don’t have a higher turnover? I can assure you, they do.
When was the last time we were competing with City or United for a transfer target? I'm guessing Martial, and that was about 7 windows ago. When we miss out on transfer targets (and less face it, that's pretty often) it's rarely because we've been "gazumped" by a super-rich club, it's more frequently because our owners don't want to spend the money. Who were we competing with for Grealish this summer? Clubs with "a higher turnover" than us?

Sorry Nick, I'm completely guilty of this. In terms of a wish list, I would love to see us go all out for De Jong or Ndombele. There'll be big competition for their signature, I'm sure. But I feel we really need a statement signing like this; not least because it's an area in which we're deficient as a result of injuries or lack of form, but also because we need to freshen the squad up and send a message to our competitors and fans alike that we are a big club.

I'd be happy with a proper back-up striker and someone to compete with Eriksen.

We’re competing with them in the league and often doing better than them.

Yep, De Jong or Ndombele and perhaps Rabiot - who will have just 6 months left come Jan. Ship out Sissoko and Dembele.

From the looks of things Winks is coming back to form and showing what he can do - England call up and everything. Would love him to get some more games and get back to his best. He's nearly there.

Pointless exercise for now IMO; my only hope is that once we're back 'home' the stadium excuses stop and we can start to invest in the squad again.
Otherwise, i could see a slow exodus of key staff who come to the conclusion that theyve come as far as they can at Spurs.
Until that happens i think its 'as you were' for Spurs i.e Top 4, cup runs, youth coming through. Dont get me wrong, im sort of happy with that but chances of winning something are remote in my opinion.

Lozano looks an absolute steal at a £25M release clause. 26 goals in 44 appearances for PSV which is insane. Yes I know it's the Dutch league etc etc but even so.

I'd like us to start seriously looking at upgrading LB; Rose is on the decline and Davies at his best simply is not good enough. Too slow, too sluggish.

Back-up striker would be nice but not essential. CM surely has to be priority. If Rabiot is available on the cheap with his contract expiring, as per earlier links, I think we should give him some serious consideration if he'd want to come.
