Would be like a new signing if we could get him back fit and playing regularly.

Great defender.

Wonderful news. Even if he never gets back to the same level, it's great for him if he can play again at any level. I bet he'd given up hope.

I think he should be sent out on Loan if and when he is back, he needs a few months of games to get him back to some level of match fitness.

I can see the logic

But can you imagine the responce if we sent him on loan to a championship club and he got injuired again whilst playing for them?

There would be an uproar and everyone would complain how stupid it was to have him playing in a league where people would play such a physical game etc.

If he's not able to cope with the physicality of the championship why would he cope with the premiership. There is no difference in physicality between the leagues, only that one is so much faster than the other

If I remember correctly he wasn't registered in our Premiership 25 man squad, so he wouldn't be able to play until January anyway. I'm sure we won't loan him out, but we will have a series of behind closed doors friendlies so that we can control his return to football carefully.

I think a few behind-closed-doors friendlies should do the trick.

Woody - apparently Harry just said hes going to do a month's pre-season type training, and if he gets through that i guess hes available again in Jan?
Bloody great news if true...

Yeah just seen that on SSN, great news would love to be able to have him in the back 4 again

A solid months pre-season is a damn sight more than the rest of our squad got, if he gets through that he should be in pretty good shape, a few friendlies before Jan and he could be raring to go.

I'm doing my best not to get too excited about the return of Woodgate. I love the guy, I think he's second only to King in terms of ability out of our centre backs, but 18 months out, during which he'll have turned 30, will be very difficult to come back from at anywhere near his previous level. What little pace he had will surely be completely gone, and he'll have to retrain himself completely to read the game as he used to, not to mention take on physical challenges from the likes of Carrol and Drogba.

I do hope my pessimism is completely misplaced though, because if he can get back to his old self then there'd still be a few good years left in him and the guy is class. Hopefully he's like King and can slip back in after an injury without any drop in performance levels.
