Times like that make me think there s place for a penalty goal. Much like a penalty try in rugby. Croatia were effectively robbed by being fouled. As you can always miss a penalty and they had an open goal.

"IFAB has published changes to the laws of the game for the 2016/17 season, the most notable altering sending-off offences inside the penalty area...the law has now changed so that players committing accidental fouls, that deny a goal-scoring opportunity, are not automatically sent off, but cautioned instead. Players will still be sent off for holding, pulling or pushing, not playing the ball or having no possibility to play the ball, serious foul play, violent conduct or deliberate handball."
Thing is, I'd have a hard time calling this incident an "accidental foul". He was clearly going to take the man either way. The ref was correct, but the rule needs amending.

Denmark should have a parade for Jorgensen they win this. Knight him or whatever the hell it is they do. Absolutely fantastic, smart foul. Lots of CB's give up and just watch that go in.
Even pre rule change, when that was a red, with 5 mins left it’s a smart decision. Put them on the spot, see what happens.

Incredibly cynical, but true.

The attacker should have buried it, didn't need another touch
Yes but that doesn’t excuse defenders being allowed to stop CERTAIN goals without appropriate punishment. This wasn’t a “last defender” question. There were no defenders. Had to be red.

Fuck sake, that's so Spursy.

What a penalty from Eriksen and the keeper pulls off a worldie.
