How much contact do you deem to be a push/shove? Defenders use their arms to their advantage at nearly every corner/free kick that comes in to the box to create space to head clear. Play continues and the attacker just gets on with it. This occasion is only highlighted because it was a goal.

If we disallow that, we have to award 5/6 penalties a game.

That's been the problem with VAR. Soft fouls led to goals being called off but soft fouls haven't led to PKs given. At least it's been consistent at the World Cup. It's a high bar to give a PK and it's a high bar to cancel out a goal for a foul.

A shove is still a foul. Doesn't matter how little (and it wasn't little) it is.

If a striker went down under that most would be criticising him for looking for a penalty.

This Brazil team doesn’t fill me with fear. Marcelo and Neymar are world class players but the others are just premier league standard. Jesus does have the ability to play at that level though. I think if we played them and were well drilled we could nick something.

Coutinho is a great player as well. But if they keep starting mediocre players while they leave good players on the bench then other teams will have a chance.

I think France and Brazil have two of the best teams on paper but will be let down by their dumb managers not playing the right players.

You can be certain that in the matches so far, there have been at least 10 examples of defenders with arms wrapped around attackers or giving a little shove where no foul is given.
No need to go down the basketball route of no contact at all

Anytime someone fully stretches out both arms and pushes them into someone's back it's a free-kick. Just because defenders get away with doesn't make it any less of a foul.

And therein lies the problem... Defenders get away with it 9 times out of 10. Attackers 1/10, it's just that more of a fuss is made over that one.
