There was a brief glimpse of hope that the Chileans would get kicked out and Ireland take their place but at the moment Chile seem to be complying with FIFA.

Roy Keane's comments about the IFA are starting to become very insightful.

There have been a million injustices in sport but this is becoming embarrassing for all involved.

Move on Ireland, show you sre bigger than the incident and set about qualifying for the Euro's.

33 teams would be ridiculous.

Oh, well as you put it like that, consider me moved on.

If only I knew it was that simple I'd have done it before the players had warmed down after the game in Paris.

Where's the luck of the Irish when you need it most :)

Even if a 33rd place become available which it won't why should it go to Ireland? Didn't another team in South America lose out on WC qualification through even more dubious circumstances.

I am living proof that the luck of the Irish saying is total bullshit. :)

A dodgy offside decision, hardly as blatant as a handball.

Blatter said that Costa Rica would have to be given a place too if Ireland were allowed into the world cup, but it isn't going to happen so dunno what all the fuss is about.

I think it was Costa Rica who went out to a blatent offside goal (in normal time). You didn't hear about it because they didn't want to whine to the world...

Its 2 weeks ago though not hours afterwards.

Crikey worst things have happened and if this carries on you might as well forget competetive football as you could make an argument to replay so many games or let both teams through in cup games, you'd never get anywhere.

It was unfortunate, but it's happened and it's gone.

I feel like demanding that our UEFA Cup game with Sevilla be replayed because that was never a penalty!

Not mention the offside decision that should have been given before the handball.

And that's what I'm talking about, there shouldn't be any latest developments.

Ireland come out on the wrong side of a raw deal, everybody knows that and appreciates that.

But just let it go now, harping on and on isn't doing football or sport in general any good. If you want to participate in competetive sport you have to accept that sometimes you'll be hard done by, it's just the nature of the beast.

Good luck to Ireland in the Euro's, I hope they qualify for the finals and it helps to put this whole sorry episode to bed.

Shall I lock the thread then as we've all been told to move on? I feel the need to continue to discuss it, even if I end up talking to myself, whether you want me to do so doesn't concern me.

I was putting my point of view that's all, if you want to take it so literally that's up to you.

And I couldn't care less what you do, so I have no idea why it should even concern you but I'm mighty relieved it doesn't.

Spurs fans still talk about the goal that never was (Mendes)
England fans (well, the media) still talk about 66 when the world cup comes around and about the hand of god when we come up against Argentina.
Scotland still go on about how England raped their women, killed lots of people and burnt down their homes.

None of those have gotten over it yet

Making noise about things like this will only help the argument that something needs to be done about blatant cheating in the game.

A bit sweeping I would say.

To tell you the truth I'd rather discuss today's developments than get involved in a tit-for-tat conversation with you. There's a FIFA meeting on Wednesday which will again discuss this and hopefully bring it to a close officially at least. Be prepared for further discussion here.

But none of those shouted about replays or tried to get into the tournament or stay in a tournament because of it :-D

The world cup is spoken about as it's a win.
The maradona spoken about, probably as this gme will be, still think the english one was worse - to go out of a world cup at qtr final stage to a handball like that, was way worse than what happend to the Irish team.

And the scots have every right to bang on about the raping and pillaging I guess - although I agree they kinda need to get over that a bit now :-D

Dougs can vent his frustation here, tbh I do honestly feel the Irish were unlucky, but the bottom line is, they lost, and didn't take their chances.

It was only going into penalties, so they were still not definitely through, probably made worse for Dougal that it was Henry who done the damage too :-(

I remember POrtugal in the world cup (maybe a two or three back), so fella got a handball in the semi against France, when I thought it was quite a harsh handball. Penalty, sent off, lost the game and the portugal team kicked off big time...

That was a harsh way to leave a comp too.

Shit happens though :-(

I agree with this.

We should get our 1962 European Cup semi final replayed as the ref was blatantly cheating and probably stopped Spurs winning the European Cup.

Now that is what I call shit!

Why do you think it was worse?

I would say it was a bit more obvious, but both still deliberate handballs that cost both teams.

I for one am long over the Maradona incident. In fact I was over it just as soon as he scored probably the best WC goal I've ever seen. To me that game is more about the feet of god than the hand of god... Still hate the fucker though, just not for the handball goal.
