Just saw a short video about training facilities and hotels. I guess as well as stadium they must have had to build a load of training facilities as none would exist well maybe they had a couple. Obviously usually they’d just use team facilities but that infrastructure isn’t there. What an unbelievable waste of money all these stadium and facilities talk about white elephants.
And all that is before you get to wondering where all the fans will stay. I watched this short video, and it gets worse and worse - and then they say one plan is to give fans tents so they can camp in the desert :ROFLMAO:

Australia v Peru has been so bad. I can't think of one real chance. I suppose that each team is playing a bit cautious as there's so much on the line, but it's making for a poor spectacle.

73 minutes gone, 0-0, no shots on target for either team.

Sounds thrilling.

Australia on top now. They're killing Peru down the left flank. They've had 2-3 decent chances now. Peru still offering nothing.

If this is a preview of what tired players in Qatar looks like then it should be a fantastic World Cup....

And it's gone to penalties! At least it should up the 'shots on target' stat...

Australia miss their first penalty, but Mooy scores their second, while Peru score their first two, despite the ludicrous antics of the Aussie keeper.

Peru lead 2-1 going into round three...

Aussies score their next two penalties, whereas Peru miss their third, so it's all square going into round five.

Nail-biting stuff if you give a shit about the outcome.

Both teams score, it's sudden death... through boredom if you watched the preceding 120 minutes by all accounts.

Redmayne saves the sixth Peru penalty and the Aussies are through!

They go into Group D alongside France, Denmark and Tunisia.

Two things I've learnt from this match - 1) France and Denmark will qualify from Group D fairly easily and 2) the Aussie keeper is a tit.

The defending goalkeeper must remain on the goal line, facing the kicker, between the goalposts, without touching the goalposts, crossbar or goal net, until the ball has been kicked.

...
When the ball is kicked, the defending goalkeeper must have at least part of one foot touching, or in line with, the goal line.

So there's two different clauses for the goalkeeper when it comes to the taking of a penalty kick. The second one is the one we're all used to and he was fine in this case. But he clearly came off the line during the run up of the last penalty kick he saved and then jump back on it which seems to be a pretty blatant violation of the first clause there. I wonder how much of a deal Peru might make of this.

Awful game. And the worst Australian team that I've ever seen, and I can remember the qualifying campaigns back to 1969.
Goodness knows how they got past the fifth best team in South America.
As for the keeper, words fail me. It really shouldn't be allowed and I agree that he stepped over the line then back again before the last Peruvian penalty was struck.
I think Hugo can take a picnic lunch of wine and cheese for the first game France play against Australia because he certainly won't have anything to do.

Did they have VAR? Fairly easy to determine if Redmayne was off his line and it should have been retaken.
