Anybody see the Sky Sports 07/08 best goals of teh season, there must be about 10 past Robbo. Half of them wouldn't have gone by him couple of seasons ago, I like Robbo, but I hope we get in another number 1.

so nothing to do with the players getting a chance to hit them from that far our, our defence/midfield not closing them down, yada, yada, yadazzzzzzzz

dude, this threads doomed - go back a few weeks and i'm sure you'll find plenty of discussion about Robbos form and plenty of us trying to point out to the doubters WHY his forms plummeted, etc...

Plenty of it in the transfer forum thread about him to - go for it

These things even themselves out. He was the keeper when our defence was one of the best in the country. Some of the shots that got past him wouldn't be saved by any keeper, some of the strikers who hit them will never catch the ball sweeter. Sebastian Larsson won't score many like it.

there is nothing wrong with Robbo, he's still te same keeper who was great for us and nearly won Leeds the champions league.. its just a wee bit of confidence, thats it . nothing else.. and frankly if we wank 8 million quid on some other untried in the premier league sod its a fucking disgrace. He is the number one keeper in the countery, as soon as David james fucks up, and he will, old robbo will be back there, probably playing for aston villa at the time.. fecking stupid.. Everyone sits there banging on about how david james is a great keeper (he is ) and happily forgets the 4 years where everyone referred to him as calamity. It's the media pure and simple.. he missed a cross at the world cup, he got done a by a bounce (sorry,"catastrophic error" tm, The Sun ) and all of a sudden our fickle dim witted supporters think he couldn't catch a ball if there were 20 flying at him

Robbo has the potential still to be a top goalie and I would like us to stick with him. It will be interesting to see what happens to Petr Cech after the high profile howler and highly disappointing season. All players need a positive mindset and loads of confidence but goalkeepers even more than others. If he does hit a rough patch (and obviously I'm hoping he does) because of all that - does that suddenly make him a poor keeper?

You are so blind to him its untrue. For a start there are no good English keepers at the moment.

As for Robbo, the guy hasn't come off his line for a cross for nigh on two years..as I remember. There was one in the Carling Cup semi the year before last where an Arsenal player actually headed one in from a long free kick on his six yard box. He doesn't come for anything, doesn't anticipe anything played behind our defence, doesn't organise the back four, and then there are the long shots; some his fault, some just poor positional play from our midfield.

He has turned into a bad joke and we have seen why no top club went in for him when Leeds had to sell, both Ferguson and Wenger were looking for a new keeper at the time.

I've often wondered why his wasnt picked up by Wenger or Fergie. I dont think Robbo is bad keeper. I do think he is very good. But I just think his deficiencies were magnifyied by our defensive crisis.

Being as unbiased as possible, I dont think he is the "right" keeper for Spurs. He needs to be more commanding. Catch or punch, it doesnt matter, if he came off his line more the opposition wouldnt be putting in crosses so deep and would have less chance of scoring.

its a fault he has had long before his bad patch, since his early days at Leeds. He hasnt resolved it

wow, disgust is a strong word but if you feel that way I can understand.

If we are removing all sentimentality from the decision I would say give him the boot, but then we cant complain when players want to give us the boot because they think they can do better.

I think he would be a good gk to keep for the GK spot. Ramos has said he doesnt believe in first choice players, just players on form, that includes the goalie position.

He will find his feet eventually, possibly with the new GK coach but the question is will he find his punching fists or catching hands...you get the point:wink:

most of what i was going to say has been said, he has been below his best the last few seasons, but that doesnt help with players getting lucky and only being able to do a once in a lifetime shot agaisnt us, also the defence and midfield not closing down well enough also alowed too many teams a chance to try there luck from range, and after so many 1 will go in!

Robbo is still a good keeper and pulls of good saves, lets just hope if he stays or goes he plays behind a settled defence and a team that can atchaly close down a player

So they're contenders for goal of the season; i.e. very very good goals, and you're saying they're the keeper's fault?

Another thing to his favour - unlike Cech and Van Der Sar, i don't see Robbo complaining that the advancement in ball-technology (soo many entendres, i just don't even know where to start) means they're lighter, faster and move much more in the air - even up to days before the Euro Cup started they were in the papers saying that some real amazing long range goals were on the cards because of the ball, and how much tougher it is being a keeper now.

Robbo hasn't publicly complained at the lack of coach, the ridiculously shaky defence, the absent midfield and daydreaming full backs, he's not come out and started blasting the management or the board - he's just got on with it, trying to refind his form and a spot of confidence somewhere along the way and, if for nothing else, that deserves utter, utter respect.

I still remember a few seasons back it was Robbo's birthday and he stayed behind after a game to throw a load of balls out to the crowd that he'd personally blown up the night before.

That was totally awesome.

I'm probably talking rubbish, but I think he came out about 12 months ago and said the new balls were one of the main factors behind his loss of form

I really wanted things to work out for Robinson. However, when he was dropped, that was the time for him to return with confidence. Everything was geared up for him to return to his best. He had a spell out of the 1st team for several weeks, and he got his head down in training. Yet he still struggled with high balls into the box and still couldn't decide when to come for the ball. I dont know what else he can do at Spurs. Maybe with King and Woodgate in front of him, he can regain his confidence. Thats what it comes down to at the end of the day. His confidence is shot.

As for the actual points in the thread? Surely the question should be about the errors Robbo has made as opposed to the great goals he conceded. We have conceded far too many goals from outside the box the past 2 years. Its mostly because we have too many attacking midfielders then we did with Carrick and Davids, and therfore didn't close the ball down. Not to mention the problem with Malbranque coming infield and leaving the left side. Young for Boro and Balletti for Chelsea took full advantage on that side. We simply dont close players down enough. I think this could change under Ramos, as he orders his players to work very hard to close the opposition down, and the extra fitness helps press teams more aswell.
