In retrospect of the highly debatable chants (Adebayor, "Chelsea run by a Jew chants"...), has Spurs (the fans) become more xenophobic/anti-Semitic?

Are Tottenham's proud record of being pro-Semitic and tolerant towards all races, religions, people of various skin colours etc. slithering??

No. just the world is getting more PC. Does it really harm anyone? Are we going to help world peace that much by not singing songs like that in football grounds?

Obviously Paul_1979yid you haven't been on the receiving end of this type of abuse. This crap is unacceptable and is far from funny. Yes, a lot worse is sung about Spurs and our Jewish links, but two rights don't make a wrong.
Personally, I feel it does harm people. I always believed Spurs fans were a more than most and steered away from this rubbish. I hope the club comes down hard on those who are involved and ensures they never get to come to WHL again.

I just had this in the mail from Donna Cullen at THFC:

As you know, no offensive or racist chanting is tolerated in the stadium and, yes, the 'Adebayor song' is considered to be both offensive and racist (we have also received complaints from many, many supporters). As such, and as with any other offensive singing/chanting we will be looking to evict and ban any fan caught chanting this.

We shall use both observers placed in certain parts of the crowd and also be asking fans to use the TEXT number to report this and any other chants and the stewards are briefed accordingly. It is in all our interests to make matchday enjoyable and there are so many other non-offensive chants that are a tribute to our fans' sense of humour that everyone would much rather hear!

I've supported Spurs since the 90's (even through the Gross era(!!)), and I don't mind the ups and downs (mainly downs:cry:) of being a Yid, especially when we eventually beat the Scum 5-1 and win the Cup by beating Chealsea, but when something like this comes along... I would have expected this coming from Chelsea, West Ham even Arsenal, but Spurs... It is a sad day being a supporter of Tottenham Hotspur.

I hear many have reported cases of dropped prawn sandwiches. They've sent a letter of claim including the receipts for the sandwiches and expect full reimbursement.

Phew!

I see you are one of those proud, tolerant, forgiving Spurs fans:shrug:

Joining in on a questionable chant is not reason enough to ban somebody for life from watching the team that they love.

Yes it is offensive and sometimes racist but it is designed to put down other team's players/fans etc and is not the same as being a member of the BNP or the Nazi party.

Let us get it right, I am not Jewish but I am a second generation immigrant and I have experienced REAL racism very few times in my life. Truly racist people are very few, the more we highlight such things the more attention we draw to it and less to the real issues of racial and social prejudice that still plague our society.

Crack down on it by all means, make it unacceptable, but lets not get carried away and start having witch hunts and hanging our heads in shame.

We are spurs!

"His dad washes Elephants" now really, is this the level of racial abuse nowadays?

I get the connection, he's african, elephants are from africa ergo put the two together and hey presto.

Now I agree it's infantile and worthy of a 10 year old, which is another reason I don't like it, but ffs is it really racially offensive? I honestly believe that if anyone is offended by this then they are far too sensitive and need to see an analyst of some kind.

I am geneuinely offended that there are people who claim to be offended by this, they offend my natural desire to live and let live and to offend and be offended from time to time, shit happens manage it don't try to fight human nature.

Every bit of sarcasm aimed at a woman is not a feminine issue and not every bit of abuse aimed at a Black guy is racist.

Stop the song by all means, it's shit, but don't play the race card.

As for his mother's a whore well we were singing this 40 years ago about sexton's mother and nobody claimed there was any infringement of his civil or human rights.

For the record I have never in my life made a racist slur on anybody and never intend to but there has to be a limit.

I must admit that I don't fully comprehend the "the Chelsea Jew chant". Some might defend the chant by claiming it's just stating the obvious, but what's the point?

I can't see the purpose of chanting it, if you don't have some kind of xenophobic/anti-Semitic agenda...

That is why you don't see it, you don't want to. It is offensive, it is supposed to be! If you had one leg, you would find a comedy sketch taking the piss out of one legged people offensive, but does that mean that it should not be allowed or more accurately, that it should be outlawed or persecuted?

You are attempting to group together those in our world who do have an anti-semitic/xenophobic agenda with people who make silly chants at football matches? Worse still, you are making it seem all the more significant with the use of those oh.... so..... enigmatic.... and...... mysterious....... full stops..........(cue dramatic music)!

Look, I am anti-religion so I have no real understanding of your cultural and religious feelings, but what I will say is that Jews are not the centre of the world, they are just people, like christians, blacks, whites etc. Do you honestly believe that the majority of people sitting in football matches, or anywhere for that matter, have xenophobic/anti-semitic agendas because they sing songs about Avram "homer simpson" Grant? I would say that most of them can't spell xenophobic, never mind tell you what it means!

Do me a favour!

I suppose I will be called anti-semitic now:shrug:

Perhaps I should say some stuff about other religio/cultural/ethnic groups just to even things up a bit?

All this does is give undeserved attention to the ignorant few who actually do hate people because of their religions or colour!
