Pretty sure they sing "oh when the BLUES go steaming in" As in steaming in to a fight! Heard them singing it when i was an undercover yid in the Mathew Harding Stand a few years ago.

No it was definitely "spurs"; as in saying when our hooligans go steaming in, they want to be there...:evil::evil:

I don't like the chant. In fact the only bit of it I know is the ele washer and the mom whore bit both I gleamed from this thread.

The irony behind this whole saga is in Africa we have very few tame elephants and therefore the job of ele washer would most likely refer to an asian from the Indochine region.

As mentioned earlier the mom's a whore would annoy me more (my dad was a life insurance salesman and an ele washer would be a promotion  )

is it racist? yes but more jesty than rabid
is it stupid? defo

"His dad washes Elephants" now really, is this the level of racial abuse nowadays?

I get the connection, he's african, elephants are from africa ergo put the two together and hey presto.

Now I agree it's infantile and worthy of a 10 year old, which is another reason I don't like it, but ffs is it really racially offensive? I honestly believe that if anyone is offended by this then they are far too sensitive and need to see an analyst of some kind.

I am geneuinely offended that there are people who claim to be offended by this, they offend my natural desire to live and let live and to offend and be offended from time to time, shit happens manage it don't try to fight human nature.

Every bit of sarcasm aimed at a woman is not a feminine issue and not every bit of abuse aimed at a Black guy is racist.

Stop the song by all means, it's shit, but don't play the race card.

As for his mother's a whore well we were singing this 40 years ago about sexton's mother and nobody claimed there was any infringement of his civil or human rights.

For the record I have never in my life made a racist slur on anybody and never intend to but there has to be a limit.

If I called him a cotton picker it would be classed as a racist term. The reference to his dad washing elephants is meant to be an offensive slur based on his race/nationality. If it wasn't why would anyone be singing about washing elephants in a football song?

Please explain how the line is not intended to be an offensive slur based on his nationality/race?

I thought this was dead and buied Kendall but if you insist please read the post again.

I repeat:
Every bit of sarcasm aimed at a woman is not a feminine issue and not every bit of abuse aimed at a Black guy is racist.

Just a sense of proportion please.

Not, not every bit is and I am far from 'pc-gone-mad', but this particular nugget is clearly racist.

Like I say, the whole point of the song is to cause offense and that line is offensive and is based on a stereoptye of his race, therefore it's racist.

A 'cotton picker' is a derogatory term as a throwback to slavery - calling a black person an 'elephant washer' is no different.

You can cover your arse as much as you like but anyone with any sense can see it.

I hear many have reported cases of dropped prawn sandwiches. They've sent a letter of claim including the receipts for the sandwiches and expect full reimbursement.

Phew!

Indeed Stoof, I hear the same.

Can I just ask why some of didnt expect this from Spurs fans - are we above everyone else or something? Have i missed something? Are we renowned for being ''above board''?

Our fans are/were notorious for having a 'firm' that was up there with the fiercest.

But anyway - do we really need another one of these threads?

In retrospect of the highly debatable chants (Adebayor, "Chelsea run by a Jew chants"...), has Spurs (the fans) become more xenophobic/anti-Semitic?

Are Tottenham's proud record of being pro-Semitic and tolerant towards all races, religions, people of various skin colours etc. slithering??

I don't see a problem, we are hardly advocating the new holocaust

I guess through history Spurs have always been a club that has been on the receiving end of racial abuse moreso than any other & therefore it's not really 'expected' as much as say, West ham.

No

Can you not differentiate what is a slur based on someone's race and what is just a good old fashioned insult?

the former is racist, as it's based on race... it's not that hard to grasp.
