WE.

NEVER.

WIN.

ANYTHING.

Glory?!?

It's a shame you don't get special mention for having the tidiest accounts...

The reason I post this is because I was talking to my dad the other day about the newest signings and he was very jaded. He was basically like, "we never win anything..."

And I have to agree.
Frugality is all well and good, but at its core, football is surely about winning trophies etc??

Don't get me wrong, we need to be sustainable, but I'm guessing we are probably the most sustainable club in the EPL, if not Europe??
We are very tidily run, indeed.

But we win fuck all... lol.

What are you on about? Years from now accountants will look at this era as our glory days.

You should have seen me partying in the street when we announced our healthy net spend last year.

It's true. We need to win some shit soon.

But, it does look like we are very definately on the right path, and it's the first time in many years one could say that with complete sincerity!

We were in a cup final last year.

Football has changed. CL and oil money has twisted the market so much that even chelsea loan players are better than most first team squads.
It is capitalism at it's worst. Rich getting richer and poor fighting for scraps.
We need change but it won't happen till the eu step in. The big clubs threaten a break away league if they don't get their way.

Yet our fans will blame levy for our short comings. Maybe some faults are justified. But his vision for the club is for a new academy and stadium to bridge the gap rather than buying a £20m striker that may work out.

We're building a solid foundation for future success. And if you tell me any different then you're a liar! Otherwise how would I cope?

I don't personally blame Levy. I think he's doing a great job of making the club as attractive as possible to potential owners who actually want to win things.

If, after the stadium is built, Levy and Lewis are content to reject all takeover bids in order to make a consistent profit as we stay stuck between 5th and 8th...then I'll start to blame him.

Don't see us winning anything anytime soon. maybe with some luck we might get a league cup or FA cup... but its gonna be a few years before we see the fruits of our labor.

there ain't alot of trophies to go around thou, 3 domestic, and 2 european, the odds are never in our favor.

Tell me spurger. How much of that profit has not been reinvested into the club?

Why do you think the financials might need to show a profit? Nothing to do with having to be financially sound so we can get the finance for a £400m project.

As for new owners investing. We'd love that. How much under ffp are they allowed to invest and will it make a difference? If someone came along and said they would pay for the new stadium and use all sponsorship money to improve the squad, i'd take it in a heart beat.

Cain Hoy, Qatari's bring them on. Until then you might as well complain that water is wet.

Sure, let's just buy a bunch of players because they are expensive and therefore guaranteed to be successful. Like that time we bought Soldado and Paulinho. Or that time we bought David Bentley. Money doesn't guarantee success.

I never said huge profit. In fact I wasn't even referring to the current way the club is run, which is obviously geared towards improving things such as the stadium and training ground. I've said elsewhere that Levy's legacy will be both of those, and I'm fine with that.

Levy's hands are tied in terms of what we can spend on new players, so there's little point in expecting us to be spending Oil Money levels. At the same time it feels as though we've reached our ceiling as a competitive football team, and that's unlikely to change for a long time. I don't expect us to win trophies, but it would be nice to think we had more than an outside chance.

Sorry spurger. Don't want to put words in your mouth.

Just think that soon we will have all the structure in place and then we can see what they/we can do.

I think we'd reached our ceiling in the circumstances pre-training ground and academy.

With the training ground, academy and stadium I believe that Levy is seeking to genuinely make us competitive. We're having to think outside the traditional methods, but it's really the only viable way. I think it's unfair to say that Levy isn't seeking to push us on.

I don't know why we don't just go out and buy Lewandowski, Suarez, Messi & Vidal... Surely they must all want to play for us, it's just our own lack of ambition that's holding us back

True, it's just that I think the next few seasons are going to be very tough on Spurs fans, with the new stadium being the light at the end of the tunnel.

I'm expecting us to gradually drop down the table, spending very little, and probably needing to sell Kane and Bentaleb in a couple of years (rather than wanting to). We'll also be ground sharing with the Womble Killers just to add to the fun. The dark before the dawn, and all that jazz.

Ultimately I'd prefer us to be a well run club that has a good chance of being successful for a long time in a few years, rather than a poorly run club that wins a couple of trophies then slips back into perpetual mid-table mediocrity. Doesn't make it any easier to experience the reality of the situation.

We can win Europa League if we really want to.

Problem is its a huge gamble, going all out for the EL and say we got to the final and lost while maybe ending up 7th or 8th in the League some fans simply wouldnt take that and yet another coach would be sacked and Levy's head would be called for on a platter.

I dont think we will be dropping down too much, we will still be fighing it out with Liverpool trying to keep pace with the top 4 places. You never know with good run and if we dont drop silly points liek last year we could break through.

Worry not SK, we will blame the manager, change the manager and start again, then we'll blame the manager, change the manager and start………Yet we punch above our weight. The only thing that gives Spurs fans grief is their own expectations.

Is this based upon Arsenal's drop in the wake of moving stadia?

No not really. I think the club will be very tight with money during the building of the new stadium, so I'm expecting us to fall away slightly.

Once it is built I'd hope the coffers would open.
