Totally agree. This all started with David Baddiel doing his video on the "Y word". I'd suggest this is because he can't reconcile being a Jew and supporting a club where his fellow fans glorify Hitler by hissing and singing about Auschwitz. Instead of reaching the obvious conclusion that you can't be Jewish and a Chelsea fan he has turned on Spurs' fans use of the word. That just makes him a loathesome individual.

As for the black lawyers shouldn't they be focussed on Chelsea with their racist club captain and monkey imitating fans. Isn't this more pertinent to their affiliation ?

Never a truer word written. Since I have lived in England (>20 years) I have never understood the impossible situation of Jewish Chelsea fans.
I have been in full on ethnic football riots in Oz but I have never seen anything to match the behaviour I have witnessed first hand as a neutral at Chelsea matches at Stamford Bridge.
Even though it was some time ago it seems they have learned nothing and in the context of today's football you could argue they have gotten worse. Let the Black Lawyers sort them out and they might actually be doing football a favour.

Yes, if used in a derogatory fashion they have the same connotation, but I have no problem with people making fun of a person's religion as it is a choice they made, I do have a problem with people making fun of a person's race as it was how they were born.

Having said that it is beside the point as we don't use it in a derogatory fashion.

You are born a Jew. It is not a choice.

These incidents of hissing and what not are so far and few between nowadays that I can honestly say that if we did not call our selves yids, neither would anyone else.

They really aren't, the away fans regularly hiss at the lane. I can honestly say I've never been to a game against Arsenal, West Ham or Chelsea where there hasn't been hissing.

I've been a season ticket holder for over 10 years and in that time I can probably count on one hand the amount of times I've heard hissing at he lane.

You might be brought up as a Jew, but not born as one and you are free to renounce it at any time you choose, you can't renounce being black or disabled.

I'm not sure where you're sitting or whether you are choosing to hear the hissing as shushing, but against Arsenal, Chelsea and West Ham it happens at every game without fail.

We sang it in Israel for fucks sake, they seemed cool with it. It's almost at the point where Yid actually means Spurs fan, rather than a racial slur, I think if they'd not made such a fucking meal of this it'd lose all connotations to the Jewish faith entirely, and it's really not our fault that fans of other clubs are idiots and are being massively derogatory about their own history, let alone ours.

If Jewish people are genuinely offended by this then I think we, the fans, should all confront the issue and make the decision among us after some proper debate, as it stands we seem to be the only party in all this that are yet to be consulted.

No, you are born a Jew. End of.

You can be born black, white, disabled, male, female, but you can not be born Jewish, Christian, Buddhist or a member of th church of the flying spaghetti monster. End of. :p

This is more of a double sided attack to influence/force the star of David flags out of WHL. You wait and see.

In the meantime perhaps some recognized Jewish groups & black Tottenham ambassadors would speak up. Right now would be a good time to put Herbert in his box. I'd actually quite like to see Levy & King deliver a polite fuck-off.

The statement released by the club seemed fine to me.

Why the dumb rating? Just do a simple google search and educate yourself and you'll see that I am completely right. Then maybe you'll be man enough to undo your rating.

Because it is dumb to believe that anybody can be born of a certain religion. Sure, they can have views imposed upon them by their parents and society, but people are born human, not religious.

You may well know a lot more about this than I do, but here's a site that alludes to what I thought was the case:

http://judaism.about.com/od/judaismbasics/a/beingjewish.htm

A quote from your article:

A Jewish identity is automatically bestowed on babies of Jewish mothers (according to Orthodox and Conservative Judaism) and of Jewish mothers or fathers (according to Reform Judaism). This Jewish identity stays with them throughout life even if they don't actively practice Judaism

Fair enough. I think the main point is that there is no single Jewish genetic trait as people from completely different genetic backgrounds can be born into Jewish families - though obviously there are clear Jewish visual characteristics in some people.

I think the only rational solution to all this is for every Spurs fan to convert.
