So far we've brought in Paulinho for our midfield... we've got rid of Bentley, Bostock, Dempsey and will likely see the back of Huddlestone, Parker and Livermore before the end of the window, with possibly Lennon or Townsend following suit...

Someone remind me again why bringing in another quality midfielder would be a bad thing?

Isn't he the sort of CM we need though? The guy knows how to pass and pick out that killer ball. We haven't got that in our midfield at the moment...I'm not counting Huddlestone.

I'd take Cabaye in a second. We still haven't replaced Modric properly (although I reserve judgement on Holtby till he's played a few games this year) and this fella ticks all the boxes.

With the players we have, plus those we've signed, plus Cabaye, it'd be the joint best midfield in the prem (with Chelsea imo)

1. We already have (5+1) quality midfielders, competing for 3 spots. Sandro, Paulinho, Dembele, Holtby, Siggy, probably Capoue, and 3 average midfielders we have yet to shift: Parker, Hudd, Jake.

2. Although we could maybe use another midfielder, we have much bigger holes in the squad. Our only fit center back is Milos Veljkovic. At left back we have Danny Rose and an out-of-favor BAE. Ade may be unhappy at being made backup striker. We need someone to compete with Nacer Chadli on the LW, as now we just have Siggy out of his natural position.

3. We have to assume that our transfer budget is limited. Instead of buying another 10m+ midfielder to sit the bench as cover, we'd like to see solutions to our bigger problems first.

4. Bentley and Bostock had less impact on our first team than Doris the tea lady. Chadli replaces Dempsey, and Capoue/Paulinho replaces Hudd/SP/JL. If Lennon or Townsend goes we'll see another winger come in, Cabaye wouldn't replace them anyway.

If it doesn't affect our chances of getting a LB, CB or winger then i'm all for it. Box to box with a touch of class and vision about him, i'm a big fan. If we loaned Carroll as well as getting shut of Livermore, Parker and Hudd then we might want him.

Sandro (Capoue)
Dembele (Paulinho) Cabaye (Holtby)
That is some midfield.

Whilst out on my daily lunchtime walk today I was listening to the excellent H&J on talks***e when they mentioned they would be talking to a french reporter after the 1.30 news including this rumour. Just as the news finshed my phone died. Did anybody hear the interview?

Good little player, excellent either side of the middle 3 in a 433. Can't see us buying him now though ?

Kebab is a quality player. Would take him before Capoue.

it's not a bad thing tbh the thing is we want to see the positions we are under strength filled first in all honesty.

He's a nasty little f*cker on the pitch too. He winds me up when I watch Newcastle, but on our side that could be quite good.

Can't see it happening though.

Didnt he have some issues with depression though? But maybe that comes naturally when youve spent more than a year in Newcastle?
