Just made a post in the Your Greatest Spurs XI thread and as I was picking through names it got me thinking about players that I really liked but that I wouldn't necessarily put in a best ever Spurs XI if I was looking to win a football match. Who are the players that you've always just liked even if you didn't necessarily think they were all that great?

Here's my choice of a Spurs XI who I always felt warmly about regardless of how good or otherwise they were, excluding all choices from my Greatest XI:

------------------------------ Robinson ---------------------------
Walker ---------- Doherty --------- Perry ------------ Edman
Davies ---------- Nielsen --------- Freund ----------- Davids
-------------------- Iversen --------- Defoe ---------------------

EDIT - As whitechina's post below reminded me, I completely forgot about Robbo. Edited him into my team, losing Neil Sullivan in the process.

All of the below players I saw many times - they may not be everyone's cup of tea- but that's why we are here

Robinson- him singing 'Stand up...' will always be special

Carr- I liked him at a time not much to like about Spurs
Perryman- skipper like no other
Roberts- scary as hell
Houghton- a true great

Fruend- shame he never scored
Hoddle- I saw a game in 1979. He was on the bench with what felt like all of WHL calling for him to come on (only one on the bench in those days). We were losing-he came on- and scored. Transformed the game- forever a hero
Pratt- played everywhere except in goal. A Spurs man thru and thru and he scored from a corner Vs Liverpool right in front of me
Ardiles- 1978 onwards wow (not as a manager)

Taylor- in the late 70's I always wanted him on the pitch he was my favourite
Falco- came up through the ranks, scored 2 at Wembley, got a nasty injury, but he still came out to sign autographs for those who wanted and was an idol to show you can make it

EDIT: sub to play anywhere- Mabbutt

Ok purely made of ones unlikely to be in a greatest ever team but of players I liked watching...

Robbo
Perryman, Daws, Gough, Ziege
Anderton, Davids, Nayim, Kranjcar
Kanoute, Walsh

I also used to like watching Tarricco and Brown because they used to really annoy the opposition and Erik the Viking as even routine saves had Hollywood dives.

Almost tempted to give this a Dislike purely for the inclusion of Pav, Spurger me ole mucker. :sneaky: But then you turned it round with a mention of Malbranque, who is another one that I forgot and could well have made my XI.

I stuck Pav in because he had a catchy song that got the crowd going. That was pretty much his only decent attribute. Almost included Zokora for the same reason.

I'll always have a soft spot for Nayim.

I even named my son after him. Nayim Mikail Zaidell.

Most of these are recent players, but going on players I like that aren't likely to be in an all time XI:

Gomes - He always seemed happy, almost simple.

Shimbombar - Was willing to play anywhere across the backline and pretty good at RB.
Gallas - I liked him, I thought he was after a cheque but did ok for us.
Nelsen - I still think he was an ok signing! He was only to tide us over til Jan signed in the summer.
YPL - The only rightfooted LB who couldn't play RB.

Freund - Where is the cheerleader nowadays?
Huddlestone - I always rated him, he reminded me of myself a bit, no engine but knew the sweetspot on a ball.

Taarabt - I still think we sold him too early/cheap.
Holby - His energy was infectious.
Sigurdsson - Another who knows the sweetspot on a ball, I like that in a player.

Soldado - He'll still come good for us! (possibly :nailbiting: )

Nice inclusion of nick Barmby, loved him when he played for us. Always remember playing football down the park and doing commentary at the same time. " the ball is passed to Barmby, he drifts past the defender, the centre half comes out to press, Barmby megs him, the goalkeeper anticipating the shot.....
And Barmby sky's it over the bar and into the river"

And the games over as the ball is lost!

He was a brill wee player and my shooting was good for a left back lol

Robbo

Sir Gary of Mabbutt (A genuine inspiration)
Dawesome (Warrior and a gentleman)
King Ledley (Because if he wasn't in this team, i would be obliged to punch myself in the dick)
Wipey (savagely underrated)

Nicola Berti (just for the song)
Glenn "The Messiah" Hoddle (first player i remember whose leaving made me really upset)
Gazza (Because he was a genius)
Ginola (Because he did it all with a smile and a swagger)

Clive Allen (The man was an absolute sniper)
Keeeeano (At number one, a Robbie Keane, at number two, a Robbie Keane)

Robbo was one of my faves. Who knows how his career could have gone without that bobbling ball when he played for England?
Klinsmann, Ginola, Ossie..Freund...I liked the Doc too..LoL...what Spurs fan doesn't lurvve Ricky Villa!!!

Surely Danny Thomas is disqualified on the "but not best rated" rule. Possibly the best RB we've had in the last few decades, no ?

Great shout on Steve Hodge, John Duncan and Nico Claesen though.
