Mine would be...

Edwin Van der Sar : off the boil recently but their record of clean sheets in the season was immense, and he played a big part, not only the saves he made, but the organisation as well.

Glen Johnson : Got his place in the England team, deservedly, a South American full back in many ways, not scared to attack, and capable at right wing. He and Belhadj have been immense pushing on for Pompey this season and he's been better than any right back this season.

Rio Ferdinand : What a defender, my sort of player as well, a ball player, reminiscent of Ledley King, but has been fit all season.

Nemanja Vidic : Rio's other half, and an immense defender, not quite in the same "ball-playing" bracket, but still got to be appreciated. In a season where Man Utd. are the only team which seem able to defend it's no surprise that their keeper and CB's are in the team of the year.

Nadir Belhadj
: Considered Evra, Clichy, even Disco, but Belhadj has been awesome, similar to Johnson, bombing on and supporting, but a decent defender as well, and versatile, has played left mid and up top for Pompey. Without Belhadj and Johnson, Pompey could be as good as down.

Cristiano Ronaldo : Unfortunately, not as consistently amazing as last season, but amazing all the same, some of the flashes of brilliance are ridiculous, running out of superlatives for him.

Steven Gerrard : Carries that Liverpool side at times, although surrounded by better players this year than ever before probably. Captain Marvel, he is fantastic, the best box to box midfielder in the world this season.

Marouane Fellaini : The best newcomer for me, settled instantly, has an eye for goal and has adapted well to be able to play up top as well this season. He's scored 9 goals in 28 games this season, brilliant in the air and a really bright future. He'll need to curb his enthusiasm for a foul though, very poor disciplinary record.

Luka Modric : Another newcomer to the EPL, toyed with the idea of Ashley Young, Steven Pienaar as well, but Luka just edges it for me. He's been class, slow starting but when Harry came in and moulded a position for him. He's class, his vision and passing are class, he makes our side tick and he even battles as hard as anyone (bar Palacios) to regain possesion. For someone so diminuitive, has lead by example this season.

Wayne Rooney : I have been a critic of him in the past, because he's so able that he maybe should score more goals. He's scored 12 in 27 this season, almost 1 in 2. He is instrumental to Man Utd's success, and he is capable of playing up top or on the left, as is Ronaldo, allowing Ferguson to switch between 442 and 4-5-1 seemlessly.

Fenrnado Torres : Hasn't played maybe as much as he'd like, but still manager 13 goals in 20 games this season. Almost as important as Gerrard to Liverpool, and a massive miss when he's not in the side.

The official PFA team was...
Van Der Sar
Johnson Vidic Ferdinand Evra
Ronaldo Gerrard Giggs Young
Anelka Torres

My team is...
Van Der Sar
Johnson Vidic Ferdinand Belhadj
Ronaldo Gerrard Fellaini Modric
Rooney Torres
Edit: had fabregas in the bottom bit rather than Fellaini, decided against Fabregas late on as he just hasn't done it for me this season.

Make up your mind, is to Fellaini or is it Fabregash?

To cut a long story short, pointless thread.

I'm playing a 4-5-1.

Shay Given: He was out of this world for Newcastle and hasn't missed a beat since his move to City. He's the best shot stopper in the game in my opinion and his distribution is right up there too.

Glen Johnson: England's right back. He's better going forward than he is going backwards, but his defensive game has improved so much. Thanks to Tony Adams? Doubt it.

Rio Ferdinand: Captain of my side. He's been amazing all season.

Nemanja Vidic: The perfect foil for Ferdinand. The aggressor. Brilliant partnership and another fantastic season for him.

Patrice Evra: No one comes close. Not even BAE! Brilliant going forward, better defending. He's the perfect full back.

Cristiano Ronaldo: Only the 25 goals this season. Shocker! The best player in world football bar none. Yes, even better than Messi.

Stephen Ireland: Was tempted to go Lampard, but Ireland just about gets it. 13 goals for the campaign, his previous best was 4. Completely outshone the Brazilian boys and has been City's best player.

Wilson Palacios: Oh come on! I had to get a Yid in! Our form since his arrival has been excellent. Will play every game when fit and has a great presence in the middle of the park. The bite that Spurs have needed for years. His performance against Arsenal in February was one of the best displays by any player this season.

Xabi Alonso: Could have been an Arsenal player. Thank God he wasn't. He's been immense this season, out-shining Gerrard. Liverpool's best player in a really strong season for them.

Wayne Rooney: Ok, so maybe it's a bit of a cheat playing his left wing, but he's been doing it quite a bit this season and it's my team and I'll play him where I want. 20 goals from just over 40 appearances, Shrek has had his best season as a professional. Went missing in last years CL final, I don't think he will this time. I expect him to shine.

Fernando Torres: 13 goals from 20 league games. Great return. Would they be ahead of United had he been fit? An argument could be had.

Lennon --- Ireland --- Carrick --- Young

Cahill

Davies

(Subs: Jääskeläinen, Bassong, Murphy, Bent)

I'm going for a less obvious and to be honest pretty horrible 4-4-1-1 tactic ignoring the big four except for Carrick because I am incredibly impressed with the player he is becoming.

Bent and Davies are joint top scorers outside of the top 4, that has to account for something. Ireland, Young and Lennon are incredibly entertaining footballers. Cahill is immense.

Darren Fletcher? are you serious
Why not? Fletcher's a model pro and has been outstanding for Man U this season, doing the dirty work people don't notice so much so others (Ronaldo) can get away with doing fark all. Yesterday in particular he was fantastic.

GK - Friedel

LB - Assou-Ekotto - what an improvement and I can't recall anyone giving him a roasting.

CD - Vidic - would so love him at WHL

CD - King - his performances with no cartilige speak for themselves

RB - Hangeland - an outstanding player. Yes, I know he's a CB, but I just couldn't leave him out

LM - Luka

CM - Gerrard - his sheer will carries Pool along

CM - Barry - superb player and a Yid.

RM - the diving stroppy pillock from Manure

ST - Torres - you couldn't leave him out

ST - Rooney - well nigh unplayable for large parts of the season.

Subs - Essien, Murphy of Fulham, Evra, Benty (our top scorer, lest we forget) and Howard - 16 clean sheets, I think.

Fair enough point
He is a good model pro, but you could say the same for plently of EPL players.. and this is a team of the year thread
Not even first choice CM for United.

My only regret is having to pick a flawed RB (although none have been awesome this season), and plating Jagielka out of position. Still, he's been awesome. And who'd have thunk so many of us would agree that Flethcer deserves this? If you'd told me this a year ago I'd still be laughing now.

I find it interesting how many of you have included at least one Tottenham player in your respective teams despite struggling at the bottom for so long (though it was a toss up between Fletcher and Parker in CM for me).

Yeah, I've watched every single United game this season and for me he's been better than Carrick.

United's defensive qualities don't just come from a good solid back line, Fletcher is one of the hardest working players in the game and has been simply brilliant as a withdrawn midfielder this season.

Of course he's never going to be a fashionable choice.

What are you talking about? Fletcher is first choice for United now and has been for some time this season, he has made it his own. The only 2 games he has not started in recently were Boro and the Everton cup semi where Ferguson played a weakened team.

I sometimes wonder if people on this forum watch football beside Spurs (well, sometimes I even wonder that!), and I think this thread has proved a lot of my suspicions correct...
