Favourites:

Klinsmann - couldn't believe we got him
Modric - heard so many good things and seeing him at the Euros the summer we bought him
Davids - just loved us buying a player with his attitude and fame

Least favourite:

Armstrong: I defended him but seeing us buy Armstrong to replace Klinsmann was underwhelming at best
Frazer Campbell: Lose a quality striker and help develop one of our potentials rivals young talents
Andy Booth: I know it was a stop gap but buying a player struggling in the Championship was very disheartening

Best;

VDV
Klinsmann
Lineker

close but no prize; Gazza, Naybet, Popescu, Ginola

Worst;

Adebayor (not for footballing ability but for all the other stuff he brought with him)
F Campbell as part of the disastrous Berbatov fiasco.
Saha/Nelsen. Nothing personal but epitomised the lack of ambition when we could have pushed on and been top 4 regulars.

I think the double signing of Ardiles and Villa is the most memorable. I also remember being really happy with the signings of Waddle, Gazza , Gough, Carrick, Defoe and Klinsmann. Of those that didn't work out so well but I was happy when we signed them I would include Alan Brazil, Peter Taylor, Nico Claeson, Gordon Durie , Dos Santos and Paulinho.

The signings I hated hearing about the most at the time were David Jenkins, Crouch , Frazer Campbell, Saha and Nelson.

Not asked for in this thread but I throw it in anyway our best underrated signing was IMO John Duncan. Check out his stats when we had a really shit team.

Oh, I almost forgot my most favourite ( at the time ) managerial appointments were Hoddle, Pleat ( first time around ), Venables and Redknapp. My worst were Terry Neill ,Graham and Pleat ( second and 3rd times around ). To be honest I wasn't that thrilled about Poch either ( I wanted De Boer or Garcia )

Villa and Ardiles (in one sitting): Becoming a junior Yiddo in relegation year, it was great watching GHodd come through the ranks, it was great watching us win promotion (while nearly Spursy blowing it), but these two being unveiled on the pitch put us into the stratosphere.

Modric - because it was obvious that he was destined to be a great player before we won the race for him.

Eriksen - some are saying Eriksen AND Lamela at the same time. I couldn't really say that much about Lamela, as I didn't really know that much about him. But Eriksen...I'd been going on about him since he was seventeen. This kid has it, a proper footballer :)

I've never wanted anyone who came from the Goons, but massively wanted them to succeed and supported them to the hilt once they arrived - apart from Bentley. I was convinced Bentley was going to be immense...:oops::oops::oops::facepalm:

A few of the faves that excited when I first found out:

Davids
Dos Santos
Huddlestone
Lamela
VDV
Carrick
Lloris
Dalmat

Although I got excited about every new signing when I was little so it's hard to pick a selection!

I've never had least favourite player before they signed, but I have been left underwhelmed by signings;

Frazier Campbell because of what it meant and the difference in quality.
Yedlin- controversially perhaps.
Khumalo
...
Dalmat?

This thread is not about whether you were right or wrong but rather which signings you most loved/hated when we made them.

Favourite -

1/ Luka Modric - Absolutely loved it when we signed ratboy. I'd been a huge fan since I saw him play against Arsenal in Europe and had been banging on about him on Spurs forums like an obsessed stalker ever since.

2/ Sergei Rebrov - Another player i'd watched in Europe. I remember posting that he'd be a better signing than Schevchenko. I was kind of right :ROFLMAO:.

3/ Gareth Bale - Saw him play in the Youth Cup Final against Ipswich. Saints lost but there was only one player on the pitch for me :love:.

Least Favourite -

1/ Glenn Hoddle - Not as a player of course but as a manager. Levy's first cock up because he was trying to curry favour with the fans. I know plenty disagree and would have him back tomorrow but I thought he was a terrible manager (and I still do). The most depressing thing was that being a Spurs legend he was always going to be hard to ditch.

2/ Federico Fazio - Never heard of him before he was linked but in the few hours between the ITK and the signing i'd watched enough YouTube vids to develop a distinct impression that this guy was Hutton dressed as Lahm. I know we've had worse CBs but nothing i've seen since has convinced me that I am wrong and being Argentine I can see Poch persisting with him no matter how bad he turns out to be. I really, really hope i'm wrong about this one :cautious:.

3/ Jermaine Defoe - Not the first time (I was all over that) but when we re-signed him from Portsmouth. Yeah, I know his record wasn't that bad but it was just the constant offsides and inability to score against any decent defence that thoroughly pissed me off.

So what were your best transfer moments when you had to explain to the wife that you hadn't just necked six Viagra but were just excited we'd signed Klinsmann, and also the worst when the window had just closed and you realised you now had to learn to spell Grzegorz :banghead: . Are you a Jonah, or a smug **** who's always right?
I can see where you are coming from with Hoddle. I felt exactly the same at the time although I'm not going to try and say that I knew it would go wrong. I thought that getting rid of Graham wasn't the right thing to do at the time; however, having read Sugar's book, perhaps it wasn't that big a mistake.

As managers go, the only one I didn't have any hope for is Gerry Francis. Was a fucking bellend in every conceivable way. So feel vindicated for that one.

An exciting french player on loan from Inter Milan known for his skills? Yeah it excited me.

It just turned out that his attitude was poor and his skills were exciting, occasionally.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing, you weren't to know that. No, I was just interested as it was a bit left field out of all the signings we have made.
