I thought his performance when we beat City away 09/10 to clinch 4th was sublime. There was a lot of hype around Tevez and King had him in his back pocket. I remember the commentators (Martin Tyler was one I think) gushing about his quality.
totally agree...i seem to remember they had a lot of possession but very few shots on goal and I think it was largely due to Ledley getting himself in the way of anything near our penalty box. Heres hoping some of the new CBs are half as good as Ledley.

I was at the Bradford game randomly. But I think his performance at City in May 2010 and his performances over the last three or four years up to midway through last season- he made such a difference. Such a class act and I don't necessarily think he would have done one had he not had knee problems. Legend truly.

The Robben chase back and clearance off the line when we went on to end our Chelsea hoodoo.

Robben Tackle. Best bit of defending I've ever seen from any defender on the planet.

This is why hes the best defender in the prem and maybe further.

Suarez tried to do every trick he could to get fouls against Ledley and he was cool as fuck and just got on with it.

Man he will be missed :(

I remember him scoring a goal in front of me when I was in the Park Lane, I think it was against City but I can't quite remember, curled it in with his left foot.

Yeah that was against City. Great goal, but lets not talk more about that game...:)

This goal against Arsenal in the lasagne season.

Great timing, such a powerful header too, great emotion when celebrating too. Legend.

Have many favourite Ledley moments in a Spurs shirt. I thought a good one to throw into the mix, would be his performance for England against France in Euro 2004. It was a such a high profile game, the nation were watching with baited breath, in the first England game of the tournament against one of the strongest favourites - England's beloved Terry was injured and Ledley was selected alongside ScumBell.

He didn't put a foot wrong all game, made some excellent challenges, interceptions, and blocks - was an absolute ROCK at the heart of the defense. Marking Thierry Henry, he kept him as quiet as a mouse all game, winning respect and plaudits from England supporters and the English press alike.

Let's not forget his goal for England against Mexico too: (Go to 0.57 for the goal)

For me it was the way he could be out for ages and then come back and just seamlessly fit back in with a top drawer performance as if he'd never been away.

Squaring up to human shitbag Terry. The way Ledley squared up to him seemed to make Terry realise that he couldn't just bully his way through that match. And then the human equivalent of pus-filled bleeding acne got sent off. Beautiful! And then we won 2-1. Same game as the Robben tackle I think.

theres been a few times he squared up to Terry all eqaully brilliant

Videos of any of them would be greatly appreciated. I really hate John Terry. I know this is a thread about the King, but I can't help myself. I wouldn't piss on John Terry if he were on fire.

Rant over. Ledley King is a Tottenham Legend!

I love this bit of commentary from the Guardian from the 2-1 game against Arsenal in the season we finished 4th for the first time:

"Arsenal are throwing the kitchen sink at Spurs, but to little avail. Imagine having somebody repeatedly throw a kitchen sink at you, but only occasionally getting it on target. Now imagine you have two big burly blokes named Ledley and Michael watching your back, who like nothing better in this life than heading kitchen sinks as far away from them as they possibly can. That's what this match is like."

09-10 season when we had arsenal + chelsea in a week, the sense of reassurance seeing his name on the team sheet was unreal

The chief defect of Ledley King:
A Leeds fan read this out on the Danny Baker show on Saturday, adapted from another poem. Very good though.

His dodgy knees could never string
Together, games from season’s start
To season’s end, to match his art
Physicians of the utmost fame
Were called, to help him play the game
But answered, as they took their fees
“We cannot cure these dodgy knees !
Ledley sir, you’re in a fix”
Was their prognosis in 0-6.
But loyalty, and strength, and heart
Determined him to play a part
To work with team-mates, or alone,
With skill, with pluck, some cortisone.
False rumour spread in 2010
Yet Spurs still signed him up again,
Because his gifts the game requires.
Who’ll step up now, as he retires ?
