If he’s a straight replacement for Winks then to me that is another major upgrade.

I think we could do with another creative type who can play further up the field but presumably that player would come in as a replacement for Lucas/Bergwijn.

I’m genuinely sat about 30 yards from Tielemans in a hotel in Ibiza!

He can play as an attacker midfielder in a 3 most definitely and does for Napoli. He easily switches from deep lying playmaker to an attacking midfielder with ease, just due to his technical ability to beat a press and his creative passing attributes.

Feels like one to go for then, probably cost even less. Guess the question is if someone really elite is stringing him along which based on how people talk about him wouldn't be a shock.

When you look at it from a squad level it's actually insane. Let's just imagine a line up in the 3421 with a strong option at each position:

Son - Kane - Kulu
Perisic - Bentancur - Hojbjerg - Doherty
Lenglet - Dier - Romero
Lloris

With the squad we're building, Conte would be able to have 5 subs from a 9 person "bench" of:
Richarlison, Tielemans, Moura, Bissouma, Sess, Spence, Skipp, Davies, Sanchez

?????? That bench could probably finish top half of the table, and provides options (like Tielemans) to totally change a match and keep the squad fresh with options Conte trusts

Thing is tho, aside from the his work rate, which has really never been a strong suit, its the versatility issue for me. YT only works in a CM 3, he can't play further up ether LWF or RWF and he can't play in a CM2 because his defensive awareness and positioning is poor. Its never been his game so its not even meant as a criticism, its just who he is as a player. If we didn't already have so many other CM options with both bissouma and Sarr coming in id maybe get it. But it would just be so much more sensible to bring in someone who can play higher up if we needed.

Dont get me wrong I completely agree with you. Like I said I wouldnt have him in my top 5 targets but I still think he could bring something to our team.

I'd prefer Eriksen on a free.

I don't rate Tielmans highly.

I'm all for this signing just for my 5 minutes of amusement on Arsenal Mania.

Sure, swap him for Bentancur or Hojbjerg but I was just making the main point of holy shit the first time I can remember a bench that strong. It genuinely has me confident that if we start matches like crap, Conte can change the look to a 352 with a Tielemans (or other AM) and it won't be 90 minutes of the same thing. Amazing.

Bentancur - Bissouma - Tielemans

Behind Kane & Son is a pretty exciting sounding alternative if Kulu needs a rest..
