If we sell VDV I will lose a lot (read: fucking ALL) of the goodwill I'm currently feeling towards Levy, AVB and the club in general. If he's not hankering for a move (and he doesn't seem to be, despite what the Daily Mail tries to say every day) it will be a fucking crime.

He is by far and away our most important player, our only world class player, and a massive influence on the team and the fans. Losing him will be lke when we sold Waddle or Hoddle or Berbatov.

I will be so fucking ANGRY if this happens!
I can't rate this post as I'm on my phone Bobbins, but if I could it would be a winner!!

I agree with all of this, I will be devasted if we sell him, he is the heartbeat of the team, he drives us. The one truely world class player and our best since Ginola. We have absolutely no beef to sell him.

I think the situation with VDV is though we might sell him he is by no means on transfer block. If you break it down a little bit I think it makes sense.

1) We're looking to get younger and VDV is 29 and doesn't have a particularly impressive health record.
2) He doesn't have a 100% natural position in AVB's 4-3-3
3) There is some brewing interest from around the continent.

What this adds up to for me is that Levy would be willing to sell him if he got the right offer. In my opinion that offer would be in the 12-15 million quid range. There is in my opinion no way that we are shopping VDV merely willing to sell him if the right offer comes in. I love VDV just like everyone else but if you remove the emotional attachment from the equation 12-15 million quid would look pretty inviting for a 29 year old who doesn't quite fit the new system. I bet Levy would find that to be good business.

Screw your sensible reasoning ;)

I wanna keep Rafa for the following reasons:

I'd be gutted to see Rafa go, I really like him as a player and as a bloke, but I do worry he might struggle in the VDV system :( I just hope he's willing to work for and gets the chance to try!

I pretty much agree with that - how many better players are there in the world than Modric in that role? Not many! I'd love to think we can keep him, but I don't really believe it. If he goes and we get Moutinho I reckon that's not a bad result at all from what I've seen of him and Oscar could be pretty exciting too.

Unfortunately we're still going to be a stepping stone for some players for a while yet, we simply can't live with the money of City or the Chavs or the glamour of United, Real or Barca, so there will be times when we risk losing the big stars. We've done pretty well at getting over them in recent years by signing the next rising star on the cheap and as we climb the league and gain recognition there are fewer clubs who can bully us - Liverpool and Arsenal don't have much over us anymore!

I think he will do just fine in that system ;)

Big big no to selling VdV...

What the hell?! I cannot believe I am reading this crap. Unless he wants to leave why the hell would you sell one of your best players?

Surely you keep him for another season at least and see how he fits in with the the new ethos?!!

I love VdV and will be truly pissed if he's sold.

As far as I am aware, Rafa will be a Tottenham player come the end of the transfer window, no plans to get rid of him.

REALLY, REALLY, REALLY hope that's TRUE!

On the assumption that AVB rotates the squad appropriately, VDV could be even better, and more effective in the bigger games, for playing a bit less. (y)

Storts to the rescue.

Let's be honest though Archie has been a bit hit and miss recently and he did have ITK that JJ refuted, so there is a chance he's going to continue being hit and miss. As for Jasper, well I need say no more there.

I think that's what all the ITK means. No plans to sell him, but if the right offer came along then we would heavily consider shipping him out. However, this has gotten skewed by all the rags so people now think his sale is imminent and we are shopping him when it really means if an outrageous offer came in we would sell him. At least that's the sense I have from reading between the lines of what has been presented to us.

Wasn't too sure on how they were ITK-wise to be honest so slightly happier now. Thanks mate!

Suddenly, we have an awful lot of experts on AVB's 4-3-3. Whilst this was apparently the system he employed at Porto, is there any evidence he is indissolubly wedded to it? All i read about him informs me that he is a highly intelligent, thinking coach; do highly intelligent, thinking coaches adhere to one system regardless? I'd like to think that AVB will not play a 4-3-3 come hell or high water.

And Rafa's missus loves London, apparently.

I'm pretty sure he used 4-2-3-1 with Chelsea quite a bit. I thought I saw a press conference or read an interview with him discussing it.

I would be gutted if he left maybe to the extent of how I felt when Ginola went.

He plays with the passion of being a fan and lives to entertain.
