"It is true the idea was for me to go to the Premier League, because the biggest offers came from there," Villa told reporters.

"But then Atletico Madrid showed up and they did more in three days than others did in months."

Anyway. Didnt Levy get Baldini in to take the blame for this sort of thing?

Benteke won't necessarily be a more expensive option. In four years villa will have no value Benteke will either still be scoring for us or making us a profit, the difference between price and value is the cost.

We were willing to pay DOUBLE the fee that AM paid for Villa. He chose to sign for AM. I reiterate -- it had nothing to do with money.

So if it was not about funds (we had agreed with Villa and Barca) on what did they move faster? Finding a pen?

Various ITK have already mentioned the Spurs 'cheque book'. Perhaps this is the wake-up call everyone at the club needed. Time to move to some sort of electronic funds transfer I think as these buggers can take a day or two to clear.

I don't understand how people can come to this conclusion. He did not say this

"He told reporters: 'We had a move to the Premier in mind but then Atleti appeared and within three days all my personal terms had been agreed.'From a career point of view, they weren't lacking anything. "
They finished third and will play in the Champions League. They beat Real Madrid to win the Copa del Rey.'Starting from today, the best club in the world for me is Atletico Madrid.'"

This says he had a deal set up to a prem team, but a decent Spanish side came in with CL football and he jumped at this chance.

Agreed. He moved there because either he wanted CL and the chance to stay in Spain or we weren't decisive enough. Not because of our "lack of funds"

And Villa still never said it was Spurs, not once, there has been no link from either him or the club. Villa was talking about Arsenal obviously.

Tbh it could mean anything. Setting up a school for his kids, a job for his wife, a mistress for him.

Also his brother works for Atleti so might have had a bit of a head start, or got commission for him joining.

Yep, and I can't blame him for choosing to stay close to home and play CL next season. I don't think Levy or anyone at Tottenham are to blame for this falling through. It's a shame though, we really needed someone like him.

A&C must be bored. Every morning he wants to start a fight between the pro/anti levites. Can a mod be a troll?

Not that I'm complaining :cautious:

Think enough has been said on the DV saga no? The guy didn't want to come, end of. Had he not had an offer from any club in Spain he likely would have, but the guy wanted to stay, it's obvious to all and sundry. Daniel Levy has his faults, but FFS, the David Villa non-signing is not one of them.

Can we all move on from the David Villa talk. It's in the past now. Who cares what he said or didn't say. The only Villa talk in here should be Aston Villa if we have some ITK about Benteke.

Its just the Spurs hating tabloids shit stirring

My understanding is that it was Villa's wife who wanted to stay in Spain and that this was what killed the deal

Hmm, not sure what I believe about the Villa transfer. We dragged our heels? He wasn't entirely comitted to the idea of leaving Spain? Probably a little from column A and a little from column B. The one thing I do remember him saying is that he'd go to the team that showed they wanted him the most. Perhaps AM got the nod just because they moved on it quickly. Who knows. Time to forget about it. It's not the end of the world.

Just doing my Captain Scarlet research. There was a new series in 2004/05 made using CGI - wtf!!?? if I could be bothered I'd photoshop Bale in a Captain Scarlet costume, but then again I couldn't - never red!

Anyway, I hope things are moving a little at Villa with the club doing some posturing again about him being heavily fined if he does not turn up. Let's hope for a quick end to this. I reckon CB will be on his way on pre season tour with us.

This David Villa talk is so mind-numbinngly dull. It took over this thread last night and this morning it continues to do so.

Let's talk about something else.
