I'm just going to let Monday surprise me. It's deadline day so something big has to happen to finish off our window, surely?

We were linked to Daley Blind (son of the legendary Danny) from Ajax a month ago in ITK. He's got good reviews in Holland as an up and coming LB, but I can't see Ajax selling two of their best players to us in the same window unfortunately.

I could see Verts being pushed to LB, with Kaboul and Dawson as the central pairing throughout the season. As what happened last season with Caulker in the centre. Would be a shame, because I really, really want us to 'blood' Verts and Kaboul as our centre back partnership for years to come. Not too mention we would be seriously screwed with any injuries. I really hope we get an accomplished LB in. I hope Rose proves me wrong, but like many on here - I don't think he's top four standard, and I don't think he ever will be. Good little player though, not taking that away from him.

Surprised so many people here think we're done now.

There's going to be more movement regarding ins/outs.

At least that's what the vibe is around the club staff so.

I cant see us ending the TW without signing another LB, I guess its just a matter of who we sign.

No chance.

I've gotta say, I find it staggering that with the amount of money we've had available to us this year we're content with Danny Rose as our first choice full back.

Young player who had very strong last season at PL, sometimes I wonder if people were more open to him if we had purchased him this summer.

Was he very strong last season? Or just a breath of fresh air in a mediocre, struggling Sunderland side?

You can see why he was taken to up there, tenacious, heart on his sleeve, gets forward okay.

I just don't think he is or ever will be a top 4 quality LB.

Sorry.

You don't think so? Happened last season. I wouldn't want to see it happen, but Verts was effective there - as Man Utd found out! ;)

He mainly played left back against teams that were quite physical in their approach or teams that played a lot of high balls.

Maybe for some games for tactical reasons (possibly big games) but no way every match- should be very occasional- we need fast full backs and Vertonghen is also so much better at CB and one of the best in the league.

It may happen if we have injuries. We're probably better playing verts at LB with any combination of our other 3 cbs than playing zeki at LB. But I think we'll sign a lb, in which case verts should stay central.

I think there will still be plenty of movement but if there isn't I'd still be absolutely delighted with our squad.

Well it seems we may have to use him for now, maybe revisit situation in Jan if he really is dire.

This doesn't mean I don't think we will bring in another player or players.

Daley Blind wouldn't fall into that category. They've lost Eriksen, their no.1 player, and Alderweireld, another important player and they still have likes of Siem de Jong and Viktor Fischer who are way above Blind. Daley Blind is also older than Danny Rose.

What's with the left back slating? He was the best player for Sunderland last season. Walker is as suspect as rose but gets away with it. We need ADE gone and a new striker before a left back.

Well, we've been over this before, but it doesn't take much to be Top 4 quality LB, does it. Ashley Cole was shit last season, Gael Clichy nowhere near the standard he was at Arsenal, Patrice Evra is at timea showing his age and Gibbs is injury prone as they come and Monreal rather ordinary.

Picked out for scapegoating already while none of his competitive games this season merit to it.

That's why he's still at Everton i guess...................

Well, he has turned down Bayern Munich. Moreover, it's Coentrao being pushed out of top club and Baines being courted by one (ManUtd). Anyway, he has been on PFA Team of the Year twice, so supposedly he is better than what any of the top PL clubs have now.
