I wouldn't be so cynical about it, Levy may have the reputation of mister tight arse but he's paid BIG, unexpected sums of money in the past when it wasn't really needed.

£5m is likely to be what we would have to pay for any of our targets who are under contract.....and truth be told, its not a massive sum all things considered.
IF we are actually negotiating with Ajax over FdB how bout we go ahead and ask if there are any Ajax player he wants and get those negotiations over and done with as well.

Why would the club need De Boer agent talk to get an improved deal for Tim? If they want to give Tim a new contract they will just.... give him one.
