Agne certainly gets it

Bizzare that some in here don't and insist that's ok to wait until the end of the window....same ones every year as well.

If it means paying a bit more to get them in early, see the big mans quotes above.
I’m in the middle on this one. Paying a bit more to get them in early is fine. Buying the wrong guy just because they are available earlier isn’t

Herc has suggested that Ange prefers the Romanian anyway.

It's the bipolar nature of SC.
We've got threads full of people complaining that we're not giving Phillips or Dorrington a chance, then we've got people wanting to buy another 2 top young CB's now.
1 more CB would be fine. Agree totally re Phillips and Dorrington. No point in having an academy if the products of that have no future path to the first team.

Why? Different positions. It's not like buying a replacement for CG.

Chelsea are in a genuinely tricky FFP position and one of the reasons CG is for sale is because he brings in 100% profit for their books.

Any player they sign, regardless of that players position make his departure more likely. I think that's what the OP is referring to.

That reads as bullshit to me. Chelsea still have a ton of money tied up in their CBs and given all their squad building issues I don’t see them making any big moves there.

Honestly that’s probably more his value in the current market. I was very surprised when early reports were suggesting he’d be available for €45 mil. He’s probably the best defender in the league and Nice are second.

Good to hear we are no longer chasing lost causes.
He’s a top target but sometimes you can go so balls deep and lose out on 2nd Choice and not get first . Can’t put all
Our eggs in one basket when the probability of a deal starts to fade. Would take nice to show us some skin quickly for a u turn .

Good to hear that we're being decisive and looking to move quickly again.

Oh yeah. Whatever happened to him? Has he played well? Don't think we can complain with who we ended up with really!
Leverkusen are top of the league, conceeded only a handful of goals and he's played in most of their games. Pretty decent I think. although he will be off to the AfCon this month so a big loss.

Doing really well for Leverkusen. I have to say though, as someone who is a big fan of his, I'm pretty confident he wouldn't have reached the levels VdV reached for us so quickly. Ange's eye for a player has been ridiculous so far. VdV was raw for Wolfsburg yet comes to us and his levels just instantly jumped up and he looks pretty much world class at 22.

Tapsoba would have done well for us but I don't think he could have done as well as VdV, who has been a van Dijkesque revelation.

It’s not Ange’s eye. It’s Paratici, Gabadinni, etc.

From my understanding, Tapsoba and VdV were both scouted and the club presented these options to Ange. He was happy with either but his ultimate choice was VdV and he has the final say. Ange also has his own database of players etc and was looking at VdV when at Celtic.
