The one where he told everyone we had made contact with him.

If he was told to keep things quiet, he should keep things quiet and just speak about whether he will stay with Ajax or not.
Oh, I thought you meant a new one.

Didn't Ajax DoF (Overmars) state we had contacted them first, De Boer just confirmed it i thought?

If we spoke to FDB and told him to be quite about it untill the end of the season, I can see it costing him the job.
iirc george Graham was sacked for speaking out about tranfer budget when he was told to keep quiet

I think Levy wanted Graham out anyway so the transfer budget stuff was just an excuse.

It would be a new one for Levy to sack someone before we have even hired him

I don't know, did he?

Yup, FdB originally denied everything (or at least wasn't willing to speak about it), the next day Overmars was quoted as saying Spurs had contacted him asking about the possibility of an approach at season end.

Once Overmars was on record the press asked FdB about it and he confirmed. Then Spurs issued the "Everyone everwhere is lying, we would never speak to anyone about anything" statement.

He was told a few times and he kept bitching about it to his mates in the Press, Levy had no choice in the end.

Sorry mate - I was checking through the thread on my phone and must have accidentally pressed something when trying to scroll through the page. No offence and apologies as, having actually read your original message, I agree with your comments re: Martinez. Just for the record, I'm not an idiot, but my phone is.
Fair play and apologies for my comment just people do that and don't say out. Thanks for replying :D

This ones gone quiet in the press. Levy telling all those in Holland to keep their mouths shut?
Nah, the season is over...FdB has no reason to talk to the press. It'll probably be quiet until we see instagram photos of de Boer at Schiphol boarding the morning flight to City Airport

I still don't see the point in why we publicly denied we had spoken to him when it is obvious we had.

Apologies if somebody has already responded to this post, totoner. The thing is, our club hasn't denied we've spoken to them, has it? I thought Ajax (Overmars) said they'd "received an unofficial approach from Tottenham", to which our club responded with something along the lines of "we've made no official approach to any club for their manager"..

See, both statements are saying the same thing, it's just that our press are too stupid to recognise it. An approach HAS been made, but it's just a tentative approach, to gauge interest from all parties, rather than an actual official approach, as in to FDB and/or his agent. Overmars clearly stated we'd phoned him, and he had no choice but to inform FDB because it could be a great opportunity for him. However, a phone-call is not official, only a written approach is, I believe?
