Mate its easy to feel like that but we shouldn't really. We've made our most important signing by far in Pochettino. If he can improve the team overall, and hopefully add to it where he deems necessary, we every reason to be optimistic.

Lets wait to see how he appraises what he has. Its only sensible and logical for him to do so anyway.

If you relinquish your hope of us getting Top 4, like I and many others have done, life feels a lot better.

No reason to be negative next season. I'm just looking forward to some good football, further gelling of our squad and I'm hopeful of 6th place. Then, we can make strides forwards to trying to get into the CL. I would say that we are in a similar position Liverpool were in and look where they are now. And we have more positives than they did.

Doesn't matter who is in charge. If we start the season with Danny Rose in the line-up, any optimism I'd have for the new season would evaporate.

I view it differently. Liverpool went from 7th to 2nd in a season, which is pretty remarkable. I don't even think about where we're finishing per se but I won't rule out anything.

If Pochettino has a similar impact to that at Southampton who knows how well we'll do.

Don't expect anything but don't be a loser/defeatist and rule out things either.

I don't know why people are getting annoyed. I'd much rather the new manager came in and properly assessed everyone we have at the club (both established players and what we have in the U21's/youths), exhaust all the possibilities of what the current players can potentially bring to his way of playing and then look to buy after that, rather than spunking many more millions on players for the sake of it. If we don't buy for another transfer window or two then so be it.

I'd also say on the evidence of Poch's managerial career so far (both from Southampton and what I have read on his time at Espanyol) he is largely someone who works best with what he has got rather than someone who buys in players.

For continuaty why you have said would be fine but if you dont have the players there then we have to buy i dont think we have a decent left back of Center half or either a decent forward to bring in from the academy so it appears we need to buy.

I'm happy with my current attitude. There's freshness about the club at the moment which I didn't feel when AVB joined so of course there is some hope we can do something unexpected but the lack of expectation for us getting into the Top 4 makes me feel really comfortable with the state of club so I'm not nervous/worried/shitting myself and I'm just happy all round *cue Pharrell Williams song*

do we need to spend money to finish 6th?

In my opinion, Yes, we do. And Levy, Baldini and Pochettino almost certainly think that as well.

why? we just finished 6th despite the upheaval, absurd amount of injuries, change of manager and general underperformance. ok so you can say man utd will overtake us but investment or not we surely have a more talented squad than everton who are already going into the season minus barry, deulofeu and lukaku - everything went right for them last season and everything went wrong for us, yet they only finished three points ahead. i can't even comprehend the need to invest just to finish 6th.

Big fan of JJ but I'm not getting too het up on anything he is saying regarding Rose, Davies et al at this point.

Sounds like he is mostly unsure as to what is happening just now and is offering mostly opinion to questions he is being asked. Pretty sure he has no particular inside track on what's going on with Davies.

JJ will likely become a lot more pertinent as the window goes on and our club's machine slowly starts to grind as we firm up the majority of our moves a lot more when Poch has seen the team.

I think that there is some middle ground between City style spending and the Danny Rose risk. Once the WC is over the market will again open for opportunities. Personally, I wouldn't mind Ben Davies, but of course I would expect us to scour the many opportunities.

Just out of curiosity who would you want to go for through the spending approach?

I like Davies but I just think anything over £8m is getting a little steep.

As for more spending, that's difficult as well isn't it? Rodriguez if we can tempt him? Coentrao, Moreno? Even Cashley would be good for a year or two. I like the look of Ghoulam also.

Come to think of it Rojo would be good middle ground actually and i'll be pretty pissed off if we don't go in for him. He shouldn't be more than £15m surely?

It's June 6th, already SC getting all emotional. No way we will get anything completed in the next 57 days...

We've already finished the season in 6th.

And now we're stuck with a Conference level left back. Cant believe we would even let a player who shone over a season long Premier League loan get some game time and time to develop further...

OK maybe you're right regarding 6th, but us signing no one will not send out a good message to the fans. Levy himself has talked about "strengthening in key positions" so for him not to fulfil that would make him look more of a fool than some people take him to be already.

Liverpool's jump was in Rodger's second season, in the first season they only went up one place so as long as we make progress lets not get carried away with our final position this season.
