Last time I checked it was July.
Oh shit we definitely wont get any players now!

I do get your point but everyone else is improving too. A couple of quality defenders are needed.why? we just finished 6th despite the upheaval, absurd amount of injuries, change of manager and general underperformance. ok so you can say man utd will overtake us but investment or not we surely have a more talented squad than everton who are already going into the season minus barry, deulofeu and lukaku - everything went right for them last season and everything went wrong for us, yet they only finished three points ahead. i can't even comprehend the need to invest just to finish 6th.

But, I don't really get the fuss over left winger tbh. Eriksen has been good there as has Chadli. I also think it's Townsend's best position. If Konoplyanka isn't available for a fair price then I'd look at JRod in January but that's about it.
Perhaps we plan to keep Rose at left back and spend our money on strengthening central defence and forward line?
Dont think anyone said they are happy with 6th, just that that's where they expect us to finish. But as usual on here its been twisted into something else.People happy with 6th. Great ambition there then. Do I expect top 4? No. Do I think we should aim for it? Yes. Coming 6th will lead to our top players leaving. I believe this year we will probably hang on to most but Lloris would've been here for 3 years, 3 unsuccessful years. Eriksen would probably want to take the next step too. This has been our cycle. Poor season--->manager sacked--->players leave--->poor season
6th is not good enough and won't solve this!
It's difficult because at this stage stability is crucial, but in my opinion we've also got to get ourselves in a position where we can capitalise on any opportunities for that top 4 position. Not spending at all wouldn't help us in that respect. Stability and maintaining competitiveness is what we should be aiming for at this stage.well my view on things is simple, if we(the club) don't think we can realistically get back into the top four and beyond then we're pretty much just spending to appease fans who want a new name on the back of their shirt because they're bored of the last set of players we bought. this squad with zero investment should be finishing 6th and who knows, maybe with some stability perhaps even higher, at the very worst 7th as there is a clear divide between the top 7 teams and the rest - especially with southampton selling everyone. i just see it as needless spending when we could otherwise be saving it up towards the new stadium and future outlay.
They are getting their players as they are paying the asking price. It's much easier to sign players when 95% of the discussions aren't about how much less you're willing to pay than they want. However, that leaves you open to criticism about paying over the odds.
I know which way I prefer.

I'd imagine Poch will make his mind up pretty quickly regarding some. I'd imagine a few could go soon enough, but as JJ as intimated we'll not see incomings for a while yet.
You seem to be making an assumption that other teams will stand still and not improve or strengthen.
Our problem isn't numbers but balance of quality. We have weak positions that need to be addressed
Of course I don't think we should be thinking about not making top four, if we wan't to progress we have to finish top four, CL is an essential for teams that have ambition to become a real title contenders and win trophies. Frankly if our ambition is any less then it really doesn't matter a jot whether we finish 5th or 17th
I think in the players we added last summer we have added a depth of quality, but as often happens it can take more than a season to get the best from them. It would be a waste of time, money and effort not to continue building a team that can be a serious challenger by ignoring the ongoing weaknesses simply because we bought players to strengthen other areas.
As for being bored with the last set of players bought, I don't see too many fans calling for any to be sold, however not every new signing will be successful, that's the same in lots of teams not just ours and there comes a point when you have to hold your hands up and admit that a player you had hoped to fit well and improve the team hasn't worked out. Simply holding on for season after season in the hope they might come good is just as silly as hoping that academy players you hope might develop and save you from a big investment is going to make a massive step up after failing to deliver the development that might have been hoped
the top teams will improve, they will improve at a greater rate than us too. the teams 8 through 20 may well improve but never enough to have a squad as good as the one we currently have so all in all i see us stuck in that awkward position of do we invest and more than likely not really move anywhere as a result or do we just stick with what we have(a talented squad that hasn't been given a chance yet) and at worst drop one place as a result. i'm pretty sure that if the window shut now we would finish 6th or possibly higher, if we sign the players we're supposedly interested in i'm pretty sure we'll finish 6th or possibly higher.
yeah they will definitely improve at a rate greater than us, definitely. Heaven forbid we actually stop whining about how hard done by we are compared to everyone else we are competing with and have a go at beating them.
I'd also say on the evidence of Poch's managerial career so far (both from Southampton and what I have read on his time at Espanyol) he is largely someone who works best with what he has got rather than someone who buys in players.
He's better have a big fucking Genie in a bottle when he pops across to spend time with Danny boy next week then. Three managers haven't been able to turn him into a Championship left back let alone a left back in a team purposing to play in the CL.
Everyone always thinks our rivals will improve.
It never works out that way. On paper expensive new signings look impressive but it takes more than purely spending money to improve on the pitch. There are 7 superior teams in the league right now but losing a key player or two to transfer or injury will have an impact. Everyone can't do well, some will suffer, we've just got to hope that the system put in place means it's not us & with a blank slate, we've a more than fair chance.
Was just about to write similar.
Rose was decent til his injury & got hung out to dry by Sherwood's tactics.
Sure his attitude seemed questionable as was his positioning, but the coherence of the whole side was utter shite under Sherwood, no wonder heads started dropping. There's still a good player in Rose but it's become a stock opinion to think he's shite. There's always one boo boy and he's it right now, which is somewhat harsh IMHO>
Stevie Wonder could have done that from his home in LA. Why he would need a trainig session or two is beyond me. How many has LVG had at Man Ure?
