Even an average LB will improve us a good deal in my eyes. And, since that LB who is "average" is only 21 years old it makes me think that there is definitely room for growth and the potential to look even better in a side with better talent. Just a thought, though.
That is fine for a back up player but not a starter. I don't think he will ever be good enough to be a starter either, I can see us selling him for a loss in 2-3 years.

According to German Media Ricardo Rodriguez is available for 14m. Would rather sign just him than Davies & Lascelles.

He simply must not want to come if that is his price.

Would be great if somebody could get JJ to clarify?

Agree with this soo much! Hes a good LB and one of our weakest positions is left back. Hes an upgrade on Danny Rose IMO and we presume the manager wants him.

I for one want this to happen and can't see us getting a much better LB as alot of clubs are looking for one plus we dont have champions league *sigh* :(
I'm not sure he is.

And by spending £20mill on one player guarantees success does it?, we've been down this road before.

Nothing guarantees success. But some players get you closer than others.

You honestly prefer to bring several average players than a single very good player??

What makes you say that?

It's just my feelings on the matter.

We need a left back and he's the best out there albeit for quite a price.

Just think there will be a huge amount of competition for him.

I know JJ has dismissed us being interested or involved in getting his signature but it would be good to know why.

Point out a realistic "very good player" then. Very good players want very good wages and to play in very good competitions, we can only offer good wages and average competitions

I'd certainly rather spend nothing than waste it on the likes of Remy who won't prove any better than what we already have and another name on the payroll who will inevitably prove a bastard to shift on once we realise he isn't what is required.

I'd like to think Davies is a bona fide improvement on Rose but honestly, if it meant an additional couple of million then Rodriguez simply has to be the answer although I will contradict myself by stating that the figure of £14million can't be right surely?!

I think I can honestly say that this summer for the first time in years I wont be checking this thread every two seconds as I dont think we need a mass of signings and many of last seasons signings we actually feel like new signings.

I have a hunch that a lot of the signings that we made last summer will show their true quality in the coming season and we might actually shock a few people as to how good we will be.

Players like Soldado and Lamela didnt just go shit overnight. Also I think we a missing that fact that we have players with massive potential like Capoue and Chiriches. There are also players that underachieved like Dembele and Vertonghen, so hopefully Pochettino is the man to get these players buzzing again.

If anything we need rid of a few players just to the give the squad a better balance.

Id say we need 3 players and Im sure we will get what we need by the start of the season even if they are not spectacular signings, they may just complement what we already have.

Anyway Im off to check the fucking Political debate thread or whatever the fuck its called.:pompous:

It's not that black and white though is it? If the single player you're talking about is Messi, Ronaldo, Bale or Suarez then they may well have a very positive effect on a team's confidence; but in general, one player does not a team make. Poch had huge success with a bunch of less than average players last year, and turned them into something good. Maybe he'll do it again next season with our existing players/new recruits and turn them into something special. :)

It's not a sideways move, its a move to a better league, playing more games per season against tougher opposition.

In terms of club, and the level of European competition in the foreseeable future, it's sideways. If he's as good as everyone on here says, he'll get better offers this summer and will wait for them; if he doesn't, one will have to wonder why.

Walker, Naughton/Frederiks
Davies, Rose
Chiriches, Lascalles
Vertonghen, Fryers

I'd take that. Two genuine RB's, two naturally left footed LB's, 2 senior CB's, with two younger options capable of covering the full back roles too. Definitely need at least one, maybe even two more dependant on how happy we'd be with Lascalles and Fryers, maybe retain Kaboul or sign Caulker, and take a punt on Moreno or Rojo for that bit more depth.

No they weren't. They made the same amount of assists (1 less than Rose), Shaw had more key passes, created more chances, dribbled past more players, had a higher % rate of success of dribbles, won more headers, won a higher % of headers and made more clearances. They won bout the same amount of tackles, but Davies lost a lot more tackles (more than he won). Davies did make more blocks (less than Rose) and had a higher % pass rate but with a shorter distance of ave pass. All those stats were based on a per 90 mins not total for the season.

You could have argued the same about Eriksen last season (only the European comp was a higher level with Ajax).

If Ben Davies is such an average player, then why are Liverpool, a Champions League team and last season's PL runners up, looking to sign him.

To add to that, Schneiderlin is Arsenal's second choice to Sami f*cking Khedira. We are ambitious, we just have our own way of doing things. If we were doing the same as everyone else people would be complaining about that too.
