How do you know? For all any of us knows, we could have been in negotiations for weeks.

There is a huge divergence between what Krueger's said and what that Saints ITK posted, and it seems to me that the former is making a desperate effort to pacify the fans. Don't forget their original stance was that no-one would be sold, yet here we are with five gone, never mind Pochettino and his backroom staff. And the guy's talking about Champions League, and accusing the players who have left of wanting a short cut there! Is he for real?

So what happens if Schneiderlin and Rodriguez hand in transfer requests? Does Krueger try and force them to stay, or does he turn to the fans, shrug his shoulders, put on a sickly grin and say, "Shucks, folks, we did all we could to keep them, but in the end…"

Chances are it will end in stalemate with DL not meeting the transfer fee, and SFC chairman not budging either, but ya never know!
What is confusing tho, Poch obviously declared an interest in signing these players right from the start, so why on earth have we waited for Liverpool and Arse to snap up most of there players before we tied the 2 players up, surely you would strike first to back your new manager.

So are we buying the two of them plus loaning them a shed load of players as part of the deal?

Not sure about Poch being unhappy with the selling club refusing to sell. Moutinho was a very achievable signing and by all accounts is was only a matter of a small amount that Levy messed about with. And lets be honest would you sanction 30+ million for Hulk!!! Don't care if that is backing your manager or not Hulk for 30+ mil and 180k per week is just pure insanity.

Erm I was replying to a post, didn't say I wanted Hulk, in fact I didn't at the time to be honest, but Moutiniho was a proper fuck up that we all thought was happening and didn't, so in relation to JR and MS I can see similar outcome

Obvious to whom?

Pochettino stated that he wanted to assess the squad, he's now done that and found that he wants to strengthen in CM and LWF and he recommended the Southampton chaps, we're now going about acquiring the targets. I wouldn't take put as much faith in what Kruger said, Saints fans aren't.

Mmm guess We need to look elsewhere now must try to get the squad settled before deadline day imo but it does make me smile as liverpool have raped them fairly easy for players but when we want anyone they are suddenly staying.
The fun and frolics of being a spurs fan eh lets move on quickly we must have other targets.

don't kid yourself that Levy is operating in isolation. He and the manager will have discussed it and agreed an acceptablr highest price.
unfortunately if we want this pair it will be at a premium price.
Hasn't everybody else paid a premium

Statement of defiance from the chairman to appease the fans, players hand in transfer requests to force the moves, club looks like they've done all they could etc...
I'll be disappointed if we miss on Schneiderlin. He's exactly what we need. I'll be disappointed for him too since this is a great opportunity for him. The right club at the right time with the right manager. I'm going to be try to be optimistic that this will all work out.

And, I believe that Deschamps has said that Schneiderlin needs to play for a bigger team if he wants to play for France. Puts Schneiderlin in a panic position. He has to get out.

Really you don't think he knew like most of us we needed a LB, CM and LWF, was he asleep when we played them last season, surely if Poch is as thorough with game plans as we are led to believe I'm sure he would have a pretty good idea once he walked through the door.

I don't think we'll sign them now. If the price wasn't high enough already, it'll be ridiculous now; probably around the £50m that we all (rightly) laughed at.

I'm not buying this 'he doesn't mean it' nonsense, their chairman will know better than anyone else how royally fucked off the Saints fans are at the moment, if he goes against his word now and sells them, there will be pitchforks and torches on his doorstep. If, and only IF their board were prepared to sell them to us, they wouldn't have bothered making that statement, because in the long run it'd end up doing twice as much damage than if they said nothing at all.

Remember the goat said:

"From a different source to earlier, The Goat has heard that we've bid a couple of times for Schneiderlin. Also that he wants out so the latest bid is likely to be accepted. The number The Goat is hearing is £16m and that it could take a while if they accept."

Seems possible that, at least for Schneiderlin, they are willing to deal but it may take awhile for Southampton to save face/blame it on Schneiderlin/sign replacements while appearing to hold firm. It's interesting that the leak that it was close came from Southampton, not Spurs. A classic "we wanted to keep him but the player wanted out so we were forced into accepting a great deal that we reinvested in the squad and we'll be better off this way" situation

And so it begins - toys out of the pram from MS within hours of the statement. Just waiting on JR now.
