Hopefully we're sensible about offloading players to buy new ones. We can't end up selling Soldier, for example, to bring in another CM!

Yes when you have good players. It would have been good to 'consolidate' when we had Modric and Bale. Now? It's just accepting the status quo, which is finishing 6th at best.
You're basically saying we don't have "good" players.

haydsmith, you make me laugh, you really do.

For Daws

To the tune of Should I Stay Or Should I Go?"

Daniel you got to let me know
Should I stay or should I go?
If you say that it is fine

etc

I didn't ask for all this trouble
An' you're having a ***ing bubble
If you think I'm gonna go

A 'clash' of ideals perhaps?

Oh and as the Clash did come largely from West London then maybe QPR would be the right place for him after all.

But do you think Naughton is a good RB and definitely good enough to compete with Walker?

Unverified ITK over on SO.

A poster is claiming that his mate knows Kyle Walker & has done for a long time. Claims Walker us '3 weeks away ' from fitness and that a deal of £3m + Dawson for Remy has been 'on the table for a week' but Dawson isn't keen.

Sounds dull enough to be plausible?
Anyhoo. Unverified, might be utter rubbish.
If this is true, how is Daws not keen? QPR will probably pay him the same amount and are based in London. Plus he is familiar with Arry and Caulker. If he wouldn't leave for that we're never getting rid.

@mrpink is correct, its a massive squad.
...........................................................................................................................................................................
Most of our competitors think the same - 25 mainstream pplayers is just too many..

Unless you're blue scum, in which case we have a tiny squad (comparatively speaking). :sneaky:;)

In some ways I thought last summer window was a bad one, we needed a decent lb we didn't get one, we needed a good CB we got Chiriches. Had we got a decent LB that may not have been so bad, but when Verts had to play lb Kaboul's lack of fitness and Chiriches struggling to adapt to the PL exposed us badly

I think we needed a quality RB, neither Walker or Naughton have ever shown any real defensive quality so all things considered it was no surprise that our back line leaked goals

I think we needed a quality left sided attacker and a real playmaker in midfield. Sure we had lots of mids but none with the vision reaction and passing quality to get quality passes to our advanced players quickly. Having watched Chadli I felt he would maybe prove OK as a cover player but not the first choice left sided attacker or second striker

I was very happy with Soldado, Lamela, Eriksen, Paulinho and Capoue and as said though I knew nothing about Chiriches wasn't unhappy with him as a 4th choice CB whilst we were still supposedly trying to get a LB

Lots of people argued that we struggled last season because we added too many players, personally I think we struggled because we didn't get enough. Of course buying a playmaker for midfield there was an argument that we had too many midfielders, to a certain degree that's fair enough although but then we offloaded Hudd and Parker, Livermore was loaned, Bentalab wasn't even considered and Holtby who was apparently so needed the previous Jan that we paid a fee to get him early had struggled

Then look elsewhere Gallas hadn't had his contract extended and Caulker left so two CB's down and only one inexperienced one in

Bale and Dempsey had gone so Lamela and Eriksen came in, we'd been short of strikers and some would ague still are so Soldado's arrival was needed. As Bale had become a free role player we still needed a left sided attacker and we never had a cover player which is where I assumed Chadli had signed
Now when you consider we were strongly linked to Coentrao, Pjanic and Willian it looks as though the club were trying to add for those three key positions but failed

Obviously injuries impacted the season and some of the new arrivals but for me lack of a quality playmaker impacted Soldado used to getting a decent early service from deep likewise no left sided player and Lamela not getting picked and then injury issues he got no service from the flanks either. Lack of a playmaker also affected Paulinho a player who did his best work off ball making runs and finding space and making late runs into the box to get on the end of a pass while the advanced players pull defenders , those type of players need a playmaker for their supply. Lamela would have benefited from a play maker too and a decent left side player.

Then we have defence a decent left back that could defend would have protected our left flank and wouldn't have required Verts playing LB, Verts and Daws could resume and develop the partnership that had been working well the previous season and so would have given the whole back line a boost
Of course there were imo some good additions that we haven't seen the best of yet, so a good and a bad window

This time round we still needed a left back and we got one, a step in the right direction, CB wise Kaboul seems no closer to his pre injury form nor does Vlad look any nearer adapting to the PL. We need a CB. We have a added a young RB and a cover keeper, both might prove useful but neither are likely to be key players for this season

We still lack a play maker and lack of one can again make it harder for the advanced players, good early distribution is key. Likewise we still don't have a quality left sided attacker and having another quality player inter passing and inter changing can only help Lamela and Eriksen and give Soldado or Ade a decent service
Striker wise I guess we can get buy at least until Christmas but again like LB last season getting by not adding a player can put other pressure on

Is it a good window so far? well not really, good that we have addressed LB, but until we address the need for a CB, playmaker and LW/LWF it will hardly rate as a great window.

Lets hope we can tie up those needs before the window closes, We should give Poch the best balanced team we can and should be looking to at least nab a top four spot, but I'd really prefer it if we can try and put in a far more serious challenge for the title. No doubt the competition will be fierce but that doesn't mean we shouldn't be trying to compete

Personally speaking I will still feel very meh if we haven't added a striker, but that's just me. At least we've managed to go a transfer window without selling one of our best players this time ( a bit sad that this is what I'm reduced to celebrating).

I won't be devastated if there are no additional signings this window, but I'll be disappointed if we don't (at least) bring in MM (or another top quality CB). A little OT, but I'm a bit baffled as to why we haven't gone after Schár at all this window. :(
Otherwise we have a very solid squad IMHO. No major sacrifices made and a couple of astute acquisitions (e.g. Davies, Vorm, Dier, etc) brought in. I'm not worried about it. It's Poch's job to whip the youngsters into shape, and it shall be done. All in due course. (y)

He won't even be a starter at qpr. Ferdinand and caulker??
