It's all been very quiet on the itk front lately and for me that's fairly understandable. We have two clear targets we know the club want to bring in (ms and mm) one of which we know will have to be a late deal for saints to save face. IMO and that will be it for this window. It is common knowledge the club are looking to offload a few, we have a chairman who is uncompromising on asking prices for his players. If you were another club looking to buy one of our players the only hope you have of getting a good deal is to leave it late and try and force Levy's hand by hoping we get desperate to raise the funds for a late ms deal. Clubs know this and I expect a lot of late business for us in the last 48 hours of the window but I really wouldn't be surprised if the next week and a half is quiet.

True, I suppose the Defoe money top. Although Siggy basically bought Davies
Yes, you can look at it either way I guess.

Put it this way, we don't need to sell to raise funds for Schneiderlin and Musacchio - more through practicality and not having a salary drain on players who won't feature prominently.

Because Pochottino wants us to play in a certain way, he believes it is critical that we get this right quickly and once we do the sky is the limit, for this to happen he needs players to fulfil roles within the team, if the players don't then we will fail.
Pochottino therefore has to have players doing what he needs them to do, it is absolutely fundemental to the future success of the club and the one thing he knows with absolute indisputable certainty is that Morgan Schneiderlin will do what he needs him to do and that is why Morgan Schneiderlin would be the number 1 target.
Hope this helps, it's quite simple really.
Unfortunately it's not that simple! Signing MS will not sort our problems at the back. We could sign Messi and still miss out on top 4 because our defence is not good enough. Yes MS is important to Poch's system but he wont make a difference if we're leaking silly goals. ITK says Poch thinks Centre Backs is our weakest position. Therefore sort the Centre backs and the team will gain more confidence going forward.

Lets hope we sign both players so everyone can be happy.

If you think we'd sell Paulinho for £7m, you'd be mistaken.
That's my point...

But if we did just sell under Levy's and our valuations, which is what some on here are asking for, then there would be uproar.

Oh yeah, and don't be so condescending. Especially when you essentially agree with my post. No need mate.

Well, it won't be Barca - their transfer ban has just been confirmed.

With the one exception that a team that isn't allowed to conduct transfers bought a player that's not allowed to be involved in anything football related. I guess two negatives do make a positive :D

Absolutely this. And why I don't believe in the DOF system, at least not for clubs like us who cannot afford to keep spending money correcting mistakes and adjusting the squad to fit whatever new system the current manager favours.

The manager moulds the team and therefore he will sometimes want certain players, even if it appears there are more talented players available or better value elsewhere. We saw it with Friedal, Ade, Gallas and Parker. All questioned at the time, but whose importance became apparent as time went on. We have to trust and back the manager as much as we can, otherwise there's no point appointing him in the first place.

Personally I think we will also sign someone completely 'left field' (not position!) that we have not discussed at all. I also think we will still sign our M&M's plus maybe Remy. Lot's of work to do behind the scenes I reckon with quite a few departures. Maybe some things will start falling into place? Optimistic ratings below please.......

I can understand why MS is his top target, vital area of the pitch and someone who's exceptionally familiar with what Poch demands there with respect to the system. The player himself admitted it took several months to master.

Anyway, this has all been discussed to the extreme in the MS thread :)
If this is what Poch thinks then I too can understand this. A central midfielder who can help the team tick the way the manager wants will help us both defend and attack.

Lol. Poch sees CB as our weakest area, guys. You really think our best CB, who is a top class player, will be sold? Stop. Just stop. Not even worth discussing. Especially in the ITK thread.

Also, this is an issue i habe with poch. His only targets that he really wants are MS, someone we have no need for, and JR, whose out until November wjth an ACL injury. Expand your horizons past Southampton, Poch.

MS may be Poch's main priority this window, but why the hell did we leave it so late to move on him then? Surely it would of been easier to get him in before the rest of the Premier League began cherry picking the Southampton team?? o_O

Premium prices.

Pay up & get the players more quickly. £26m for Lallana, £20m for Lovren, £27m for Shaw. Loads of money.

Because we have players we HAVE to shift before we get him in. All of our midfielders (of similar quality to MS) are on wages of atleast 50k a week i'd imagine. (minus bentaleb)

Thats potentially over 200k a week on wages. Now Who sits out and picks that massive paycheck up for doing sod all?
