No where near replacing rose he played left back about 3x last season and my Fulham mates say he is a terrible defender. I'd expect him to only feature in cup games whilst we work on developing that side of his game of that is what we are doing. Those thinking our season hinges on this signing are way off the mark.
Not seen one person saying our window hinges on it.
But:
1.Hes clearly a target of Poch
2.He clearly wants us
3. Its a deal that will be harder to do with free agent vultures next year
4. If we are to try convert him to full back, getting him in ASAP makes sense, in order to start the process.

These four reasons are why people want him now. Also I would happily bet against the 'cup games' claim as well.

I agree that he doesn't replace Rose right now.

Here's an interesting thought experiment - if Fulham absolutely won't deal for less than 40m, what would you say to purchasing him for the approximate tribunal fee (~15m or so) with a year-long loan back? Fulham get the money up front and can use it to push for promotion this season, and we don't have to worry about the circling vultures for the next 12 months.

That’s what I’ve been saying for while. You probably have to pay a bit (5-10M) over the expected tribunal, but it’s the smartest deal for all 3 parties. Makes too much sense to happen though.

Can't see us playing him on left of a 4. If we get him I think it signals Poch committing to a back three with wing backs as our default formation.
If we were planning on a back 3 as our primary formation, we’d have played it by now at some point in our 4 pre-season matches. It wouldn’t be reliant on a single 19-year-old signing from the Championship.

We played it at times last season and no other incomings that wouldn't be familiar with the formation as we play it.

You have a point but we could also be keeping our powder dry tactically speaking for Villa.

I don’t doubt we’ll play with a back 3 on numerous occasions this season. But I really don’t think Pochettino views any player as one who can play wing-back but not full-back - they’re really quite similar in his system.

I can only imagine we will keep pushing because Poch wants him asap. Maybe if that isn't possible, a loan becomes possible.

Right now a loan back to Fulham may not be seen as a great idea, because he's already done the championship and IF we see him as a left back, another season on Fulhams right wing is unhelpful.

I don’t think our season hinges on Sessegnon, but I do think he’s being identified as a player with big potential, and to get him now while interest is not as high, gives him time to come in and get up to speed. Once that contract ticks down more, suddenly there’ll be a lot more clubs interested and we may well have missed the boat. Putting in the work to get him now will more likely pay off in 12-18 months time.

I'm guessing Sessegnon probably wouldn't agree to that. If he has to stay another year at Fulham anyway he may as well wait till he's on a free/tribunal and use it as leverage for a better contract offer.

Lot of the media are now suggesting this is close, £25-30m depending on where you read it. Let’s see if he plays this weekend.
Closing out a deal over the weekend would at least leave us clear with less things to try and wrap up next week.

Isn’t he still injured?

Think we need to get this over the line this summer and not wait it out. We want him to be integral in the next 2/3 years, every year spent at Fulham is a year wasted in his development imo. He’d be far better in and around our squad, our coaches and our philosophy - he may even step up a level and break through earlier than we expect in our environment.

He’s done a year in the prem, another season in the championship (albeit more first team football) is a step backwards

I dont see the fascination with him... I mean he is decent but surely it would be better for his development to stay at Fulham for a year... I also dont see why we cannot just wait till next year to get him on a 'free' and use some of that cash now to add to the offers we have made for players like GLC?

My guess is when he’s available for free, a lot more teams become interested.

It generally takes a year for a player working with Poch to adapt to his methods before we start to see the best of them. Better to get him in sooner, so he can learn and improve.

Plus if he's on a free transfer, loads of teams will suddenly be interested and throwing huge wages at him that we can't compete with.

He's one of the brightest young talents in England - until recently more highly thought of than the likes of Jadon Sancho. If we were to sign him for £30m and give him a 5 year contract, he'd be worth pretty much double that overnight. There's no real downside to buying him, even if he fails we could sell him for a profit.

We have to get him now otherwise we aren't backing Poch and that'd be utterly ridiculous.

The goat says it’s done

We’ve heard that Sessegnon is done with Onamah going the other way. Also WBA have shown a strong interest in Wanyama.
