To he honest they haven't been playing that well for a while. Scraped past West Ham, winning 13 games by 1 goal. They do have the ability to keep a lot of clean sheets though.
This result has been coming in my opinion. And there is sure to be a few more hiccups along the way.
Defeat to Atletico in the CL would be a lovely confidence knocker.
I'm wondering if this is the start of the regression for this team. They've been pretty damn good for 24 months now and that's usually the shelf life for teams. City had it and won the league twice with record points, we had it under Poch but somehow never got over the line for anything, Liverpool had it last season and this.
I'm just speculating of course. Maybe it is and maybe it isn't but the best teams seem to only have a certain shelflife these days
They also "did a Tottenham" in not signing anyone last summer. The culmination of our "5 year cycle" was reaching the CL final, theirs could be this ludicrous league season. They will probably sign a few players that they can bed in over the next couple of seasons. They can't keep playing the same 11 as it's clear they are starting to tire.
This will be a challenging period for them as they need to find players who can match the leadership and drive of Milner/Henderson and the ability to be as influential as Salah and Mane or at least be a decent stand in. It's not always so easy.
Is it me or has Salah gone completely off the boil? I know he's not been as good as last season but I barely hear his name mentioned.
