Dele off is the big reason why the team's dropped off this half imo. His movement just pulls the opposition all over the place, creating space through the midfield.

The central midfield was non-existent in the 2nd half. There was too many reminders of last season for my liking.

Lamela - scored a good free kick but then resided to holding on to the ball for too long and losing it.

Sissoko - forgot he was playing.

Play in general - it was tippy tappy between the defence and no takers in midfield.

Had this been a competitive game Reading would have been down to 10 when the same player rugby tackled Sessegnon twice in the space of a few minutes.

Given we had Sessegnon and Clarke in attack, both of whom would have been eager to impress... the service to them was piss poor.

Anonymous. One of the most bizarre signings we have ever made...and that's saying something.

You’re bound to be anonymous when we spent the entire 2nd half passing the ball side ways or backwards.

Son did bugger all in the 2nd half but again we didn’t play with any attacking intent after Lamela made it 4 nil.

Wouldn't CCV have been sent off for the handball? Not sure if the rule has changed but I think in a competitive game that's a straight red.

Clarke plays, like a lot of young players do, like someone who hasn’t had a taste of a goal or assist in awhile. I actually think he has the pace and ability to beat his man more often than not (like he did at Leeds) but he’s very shy which for a winger is odd. You need your wingers to have an arrogance about them where they believe they’ll beat the FB every time and score a worldie cutting in.. Clarke doesn’t have that at all, but everything else is there.

I thought a handball was a yellow unless it was clear you intentionally handled the ball. It was a harsh pen.

Yeah not sure, couldn't even tell if intent was there cos of a shit stream.

I remember players getting sent off for it in the past, Taylor, Keane, Suarez, Cuellar etc.

Really? The guy was bought as a prospect ffs. He’s only just turned 19. I don’t know what you were expecting but for 10m he was never gonna come in and make an impact immediately. We bought him to develop like we have a history of doing with players such as Rose, Walker, Huddlestone etc...

Seriously?

Of course we are off the pace. It’s pre-season and the team consists of a motley collection of first team players, fringe players, youth players and one or two who won’t be here come the end of the transfer window.

yeah we are. I’mnot saying anything else just answering a guy.

It used to be a red but I’m sure they changed it. If the ball hits your arm and you prevent a goal but you didn’t know much about it then it’s a pen and a yellow. If you clearly intentionally handle the ball then it’s a red.

How did Clarke do?
Really hard to tell, we didn't really create build much after Dele came off.

It was just typical friendly, lets build triangles from the back.

As always, I will repeat friendlies are pretty meaningless in determining who will be good come the start of the season. They are simply there to build fitness and offer some tactical experimentation. What we can gain from this is, Gedson is being considered as a fullback, we are likely to press more and play this asymmetrical back 4. Thats about it. We can try and judge performances if we like, but history suggests that it counts for very little.
