I think if we wanted Eriksen then he'd have signed for us already.
But I suspect he probably wanted assurances over playing time that we just could not give him and as a result he went elsewhere.

Personally, I would have brought him in to rotate with Kulusevski as a RWF (playmaker). But that would mean having to sell Lucas which given his contract situation wouldn't be easy and Eriksen coming in impacts our HG situation too.

It's a shame but it wasn't a right fit I suspect.
The ITK is that we did want him and were in and then his agent started making noises and stalling and then we were out. Conte wasn’t interested if he wasn’t fully committed.

Which makes sense to me. They’ve worked together, Conte knows Eriksen knows exactly what’s expected. If he wasn’t jumping at the chance for a reunion, how committed would he actually be once in the door?

TBH, if he hadn't experienced the near-death incident last year, I would have thought it's perfectly fine for him to think that way. But from any clubs' perspective, there is still an element of risk to take and even more so to assure him he will have a good amount of playing time without considering the cardiac implications.

If he really wants that, he could have just signed for and remain at Brentford. And even more sarcastically is he probably might be even playing lesser in United then if he was here, especially when ETH so call wants to play a very fit and energetic side - he definitely won't be the fittest on age alone.

But no. Its really the money that counts IMHO.

I’m glad someone else had the balls the bump this thread. I was thinking the same this morning - he agreed ‘in principle’ to move there more than a week ago! It’s all gone quiet again on the media front ever since.

Brentford suggested at the weekend that they too expected him to join them!

He obviously has deals in place with numerous clubs. Sky blatantly jumped the gun because, well you know, its Man U.

It's now a case of him deciding what's best for him.

I cannot imagine that after we pulled out because Conte didn’t think he was fully committed that Conte would change his mind about that after Eriksen committed to another club, even if that deal falls through.

Only in principle.

So like Pogba's whole time at united then?!..... :sneaky:

Surprised he hasn't signed already if it's all agreed, must be something that they are still negotiating or he is waiting for a better offer (team)

Why would he not want a full preseason at his new club. Really don't get this whole saga regardless of where he goes.

Not very professional.

his medical could be creating a delay. Also we’ve seen plenty of deals take ages to finalise even when it looks a done deal. But I’m surprised that he hasn’t officially signed for someone in time for the start of preseason. I would have thought that would matter as you would want to be up to speed for the start of the season to hit the ground running with the WC commencing in November.

Really wish this would happen (clearly not going to). Just made so much sense with our needs in the squad. Oh well.

Such a weird situation.

How has he not moved yet. I wonder whether he's a fall back option for De Jong.

See him resigning for Brentford after all this.......

Last I heard he was doing lengthly medical tests for Utd.

Would be great if he went back to Brentford though.

I suspect it is one of him or de jong and that is why it hasn't gone through. What else could be the explanation?
