Conte must really not trust Bryan, if he's willing to get someone like James ...

I don't personally see much difference in terms of player level between having Gil on the bench to having James on the bench, except the latter has prem experience and for that reason I'm fine with it and can see why we'd do it.

My hope is that since most of the smoke is coming from Romano that it's genuinely a smokescreen from Paratici. Keep a main target quiet by diverting attention away from it. Seems like Ally Gold and Dan KP have been noncommittal on it so far which is a positive.

It's more than just that. Whatever we think(and personally I like Gil) Conte doesn't seem to fancy him for whatever reason. We can't all shout "back the manager" and then start crying when the manager wants something we don't.

With some of the woe is me moaning at every unsubstantiated twitter link floating around, I'm considering it...

"Fuck my entire existence, we are definitely signing Dan James instead of the player I want. How could the club do this to just me, they've literally ruined my entire life by allowing some click seeking journo to post this link on twitter".

*and yes some of you absolutely do sound like this.

:D
I would have used a better example than Dan James. Would you not be moaning? ?

It really is a shame that Conte doesn't seem to rate him. I think the kid has a lot of potential and id much rather he be given significant game time then some of the names we have been linked to but i know it doesn't work like that for the exactly the reason's you state. I wouldn't be surprised if he'd be 4th in line after Lucas and even Spence if he stayed.

I don’t know if Gil is not fancied by Conte. I think Gil wants a good chance to play to help him achieve his wish to go to the World Cup. He doesn’t think he will get the games with us.

Thanks!

I'm hoping for some positive news as a disappointing end of window normally means we're in trouble with lack of donations.

Our main opponents have strengthened significantly. City look to be a train, Chelsea have spent a lot, Arsenal look better than last year. So any improvement we've made, and we have made improvements, may be matched or outweighed by our rivals' improvements, nullifying ours.

Clubs don't usually spend a gazzilion pounds on players to regress.

Honest.

You can wander into any opponent fans forum and read a dozen posts not unlike yours. And you will read likewise in January.

I'd like to thank all the ITK guys for feeding us rabid fans all that you can, as quickly as you could and as accurately as can be sensibly allowed.

Roll on January 1st 2023!

COYS!

The negativity is wrong, but I'm not 100% happy with our business. We were told we had a significant transfer kitty with the release of funds. We know how lucrative CL football is. Despite that, we've spent money on Richarlison, Bissouma (who was a steal) and Spence. The rest were loans and free transfers.

When, as a Club, you announce that you have 150m of funds incoming, plus CL revenue, you must expect that your fanbase will expect to see transfer spending of above 100m. And we haven't. So it's always going to lead to questions such as "what happened to that 150m+?".

Our main opponents have strengthened significantly. City look to be a train, Chelsea have spent a lot, Arsenal look better than last year. So any improvement we've made, and we have made improvements, may be matched or outweighed by our rivals' improvements, nullifying ours.

Given that we heard about the funds, I can understand why some are suggesting that we have underspent. We knew for example that we needed an elite CB and we haven't got one. We know that Conte wants another wide forward, and we haven't got one. Our RWB position is still a bit of an unknown, as we brought in Spence who may well do really well, but he's not proven and Conte is saying he is one for the future. So as things stand, we have the same two players there that we were mainly moaning about last year.

So yes we've had a relatively good window, but I don't think it's been amazing. Neither of course has it been as bad as some are making out.
Well, we backed Conte. These are his signings. He knows what's best for our club, better than anyone on SC, so, I tend to trust him. He's happy, we should be happy. Spending a lot of money on big time charlies does not equate to success. Look at United. Arsenal have made a lot of signings, but they still have - IMO - an average manager. Usually it's who's in charge makes the difference. Arsenal have had the easiest of starts of any of the top 6 sides. They will finish outside the to 4 (again).

Are people seriously complaining about the dissappointing end to the window?? These same people wanted to get the deals done early. Now they're bitching that we haven't signed anything significant since. These people just want to spend for spending sake.

Agree. There's absolutely no difference at all apart from that really big difference you went on to perfectly describe.

Our onions are irrelevant; we have no influence with the club. If Conte and Kane sign new contracts we have had a good window. If they do not then it's a bad one.

Unless I've missed something, all the ITK on this has been positive. So long as it remains that way, whoever we do (or don't) sign in the remainder of the window is fine by me.
