According to Charlie Eccleshare.

“The main update over the last couple of days is about Eric Dier. The situation there is basically that he has one year left on his deal and he hasn’t been in a matchday squad, so for the club, the best case scenario would be to sell him this month, but Dier doesn’t really have any interest in that, his preference is to wait, in one year’s time he will be a free agent,”

Best case scenario is that Levy sits him down and asks him if he wants to play any football this season.
Surely a guy in the peak years of his career wants to play and the threat of a season on the bench at best is an incentive to move on?

Doubtful we get anything except a loan fee and his wages off the books, if he decided the bench isn't for him. Perhaps he thinks he'll get one more chance due to cups/ injuries?

Suspension and God forbid injury coverage and early rounds of Cup competitions.

Still not ideal for him, but if he won't entertain a move why should Ange play him?

If his main concern is keeping his options open I could see this ending up as a loan somewhere for the last year of his contract with us hopefully getting some sort of loan fee in lieu of a transfer fee.

I honestly don't mind us retaining him for a year as back-up, while we're in the process of our squad rebuild. However, I'd prefer that we get a fee for him before his contract expires, plus I'd be disappointed in him if he doesn't do everything in his power to try to earn an England recall for the . He's not a world-class CB, but compared to 20 years ago (Rio, Campbell, King, Terry, Woodgate, Carragher etc.), a relatively average CB can make the cut for England.
