Was the second Blackburn goal Gomes' fault?

Hmm it was a slice of luck, but look at the area it was in...dead center of the 6 yard box, shocking defending.

Ooijer is one of their tallest players and best in the air....how did Corluka and Jenas just let him go??

Personally I feel it was close to the goal enough for Gomes to come and claim it, poor decision. But even then, how did the near post defenders not win the header?

Same old Spurs...seems like it doesnt matter who the manager is we always throw games away late and at set pieces.

Wilson's sending off changed the game but for me alot of our important players (Keane, Modric, Lennon, Bent) looked tired/off the pace.

I thought Jenas was absolutely fantastic bar not following OOijer in for the winner, but dunno if that was his job or Corluka's.

I voted yes because Gomes was at fault for the winning goal. Although I don't agree that he was the sole or even the main reason we conceded from the corner.

Samba made all our players look like boys, I mean the bloke is seriously strong. It was this strength that allowed the ball to trickle past the near post into the 6 yard box. Whoever was supposed to be marking Oijer needs shooting!

That's Corluka I think.

I thought bent was 2 or 3 yards to far foward at the near post, if he had been positioned back a touch he would have got his head on the ball.

I think the poll results may be reflecting this overall attitude - many don't want to blame him today, but he's always a liability in their minds...

:bang:
Talk for yourself mate. I feel more confident with him between the posts than I did for Robinson and now Cudicini.

I agree he made a good save just before the corner. But, one could say that was a routine cross for a premiership calibre keeper to handle. I admit I don't remember any "good" catches earlier in the match. He did catch the ball a few times, almost always unchallenged though.

I've been supporting Gomes all season in the hopes the great keeper they signed would emerge. Today was the straw that broke my back. Bitter over loss today - can't you tell?

Completely agree, I have never seen a keeper so poor at crosses there were 3 or 4 today where we were lucky as hell, Gomes only came out halfway, or he had a complete air swing. Cudicini in. Its no good making a world class save when you cant come out an punch a half decent cross.

Spot on

Gomes anyday ahead of Robbo and Cudicini who are like rabbits in headlights against teams that put you under huge pressure with long throws etc all game

I won't vote cos i'm not sure - probably the collective fault of 2/3/4

it's just sickening, back to the old late defeat from a set piece again

Have you ever seen Cudicini get anywhere near a cross?

For some reason Cudicini seems really short to me which makes him worse on crosses, and he's been out of competitive matches for a long time so I think he's more of a liability in general than Gomes. I do wish Gomes caught more though, or at least got to the ball more since I think he's making our defense nervous when we defend set pieces.

I dont think it was Gomes' fault. He could have done better, but then again how did the ball get over the first man and yet manage to bounce across our six yard box? How come Ledders didnt get something on it? And of course what was Charlie doing, you have to follow your man all the way, he just switched off totally, not for the first time.

But, hopefully its stuff like this that makes the players realise they are not infallable, makes them focus and work harder on the training pitch, so that next season we dont make these mistakes.

What a dreadful article from the NOTW, you can tell its true position by it claiming Diouf was "teasing" our players at the end, not sure that is the term I'd use for that odious little man.

Theres clearly still confusion at times and a lack of concentration at points from both parties, defence and keeper, but I still hope that we will solve this one day. To be fair though, blackburn were playing the odds humping it in all day and you just have to hope that it doesnt come off for them, unfortunately it did, but as Liverpool showed against man utd, sometimes the most rustic football can be the hardest to deal with. Unfortunately making such a hash again of a corner is unacceptable, we seemed to have been stamping it out recently, lets hope it was just an aberration this time.

Mainly Corluka, you cannot lose your man in the box. The keeper should be able to have enough faith in his defenders not to think its going to drop in the middle of the box to an unmarked man.

The defenders should be able to have enough faith in their keeper not to think its going to drop in the middle of the box to an unmarked man without being caught by the keeper in the air FIRST.

Looks like joint responsibility is the bottom line. Marking wouldn't be an issue if Gomes caught the easy cross. But, defenders should've known there are no easy crosses for Gomes, so it's their fault for not tightly marking every single opposing player.
