Was the second Blackburn goal Gomes' fault?

When will THFC understand that Ledders has faoiled to recover from his numerous injury crisis and is not a viable CD if we want to go that high in the Premiership. On a similar note I can't see many other THfc defenders who would make it into the Top 6 teams, as it stands. We have a quality squad, on the whole, but we need to bring in a quality Euro defender, or 2, to match our competitors at the TOP. Going British is a waste of time, as we know. I dispair at the blindness of those in charge (the current crop) when it comes to squad aquisitions etc but that is another question....for another day. The midfiels is looking MUCH stronger now and that has even strengthened the defence but....there is plenty of room for improvement still....PLENTY! COYS

The defenders should be able to have enough faith in their keeper not to think its going to drop in the middle of the box to an unmarked man without being caught by the keeper in the air FIRST.

Looks like joint responsibility is the bottom line. Marking wouldn't be an issue if Gomes caught the easy cross. But, defenders should've known there are no easy crosses for Gomes, so it's their fault for not tightly marking every single opposing player.

Absolute cr@p. Firtsly the ball flew past Gomes feet having been allowed past the near post by 2 spurs defenders and a blackburn striker. How exactly is Gomes meant to anticipate that all will miss the ball, and also react to the ball flying past his feet?
As for gomes catching the easy crosses he does. He's messed a few up, and always will. Just like Grobelaar, James, Cech and all keepers.
Also whether Gomes takes the easy catches or not - marking is always an issue. What a RIDICULOUS comment to make.

The defending was to blame, the second goal was a liitle unlucky in teh way teh ball evaded all defenders and strikers at the near post, but Corluka stood still while his man moved.
However the biggest issue was Woody for the 1st goal - absolutely shocking. I'd rather see Daws in his place, and i feel that once Samba was pushed up and started winning all the headers, Daws should have been brought on ASAP.

I thought bent was 2 or 3 yards to far foward at the near post, if he had been positioned back a touch he would have got his head on the ball.

Yeah it was Bent's fault alright. He shoyuld have seen into the future and predicted where the ball would come!

I miss Berba at the front post. He was always a reliable clearer of the ball. It was a bad goal to concede but all this blame stuff is irritating. I just hope they all take collective responsibility and don't let it (the shambolic rearguard action in the last ten minutes) happen again this season.

ooijer should have been sent off minutes before for two cynical tackles, both worse than wilsons. ref was a dick and the sole reason for us losing!!

You having a laugh mate?? King may have fitness questions but is still a blinding defender when he makes an appearance. Woodgate has been immense, Ekotto is looking fantastically improved and Charlie is a steady, composed player I have been impressed with since his arrival.

So, I have to completely disagree with you. Our defence is looking the best it has looked in many a year.

As for slating recent acquisitions how can you fault the current management?? Palacios was exactly what we needed and have been crying out for. Keane and Defoe were the best available we could hope to buy at the time and massively helped sort out our striking options (and leadership issues too with regards to Keane). Chimbo is the only questionable signing but was necessary due to player availability at the time and still will provide suitable cover whenever we suffer injuries/suspensions.

Seriously, I just can't see where you get your opinions from.

It was poor defending all round, but ultimately Bent should have cleared it as it went right by him at the near post...

Fair play to Gomes today against the spammers. He took command of his area and actually CAUGHT the ball at every opportunity. He performed as a premiership level keeper today and that's all anyone wants. Good on ya Senior Gomes!!

The defensive unit including Gomes should have dealt with it better. To be fair that cros should never have got past the near post. Bent AND Jenas should have cleared. Unfortunatley for Gomes, he expected this to be done and both missed it.
