A one-year loan doesn't make sense for us, so I was never really keen unless there was a decent purchase option. That never appeared to be on the table. I doubt we get anyone at this rate.

Would genuinely love to know what DL did. Would also like to see what deal Brighton have. I may have it wrong but if Barca didn’t want to lose him then a club offering him game time for no risk of losing him is a better bet from a “seller” perspective.

Anti-DL or not, surely you can all see that?
I completely agree. I also think that we should never, ever do a deal to rehab another club's player for them unless we have an injury crisis.

I'm more perplexed about why we wasted time when these were the conditions from the off? With such little time left in the window, why not just move on?

Honestly, this window can f**k off! Can see it now, can't shift the deadwood so we bring no one in. Or at best we get Johnson over the line which covers up the shit for a day before we realise that yet again we're short and haven't spent any of the Kane money. Will only take a few bad results before fans start getting up in arms if we do nothing before the deadline Friday. I'm honestly astounded how this has fallen through, absolutely shambolic from DL!
They getting up in arms already, every little post by ITK and meltdown begins.

As we talked about earlier mate this is why many of us didn't believe we would do both deals. History has thought us that our board just aren't competent enough to devise and then deliver on a football strategy.
Imo the Kane money has already been spent, we might get Johnson over the line but that'll be it.
Same every year, few weeks to go in window the club puts out positive noises but as time passes that's shown to be all bluster and we fall short on managers targets yet again.
Rinse and repeat

Since we’ve sold Kane our business (or rather lack of it) has been nothing short of a shambles.
Yet some won’t see it like that 🤦🏼‍♀️
Don't see it like that at all. We did all our business before we sold and the back half of the window was trying to strengthen areas of opportunity.

It is frustrating, and worrying, but if Levy did pull the plug because Barca didn't want a buy option then I do understand that. It's been all over this thread today.

We're not in the business of developing other clubs' players for them.

I just wish we were more professional/ruthless in our dealings.

Even if by miracle we end up with a strong end of the window it'll be more down to lucky opportunities than anything.

Mad that we can lose our star player and potentially do nothing major with the money.

Maybe we did have the option? Doesn’t stop another club offering something sweeter to Seller.

So I take this situation to be either:
1) Levy tried to squeeze more out of a deal in some way last minute and Barca and Fati said “fuck it. Let’s have a year on the beach”
2) spurs and Levy were played by Barca and Fati
3) Levy was lining up something bigger and better in the shadows and is about to pull the trigger
4) was all media speculation all along and ITKs got caught up in The crossfire.

I personally think it’s 1 or 2. Both of which, regardless of intent, equally pathetic and leave us fucked if true. If it’s 3 then fair plays my Bessie Danny L.

massive 48 hrs for “COYS, Daniel” but then how many times have we said that before?
5) we were pushing for an option, as per how you'd expect us to, and Brighton have slid in offering nothing at all. Barca want to hold the player's contract rather than let anyone else have a poke, and so have gone for that as they keep hold of him and the short term need was only to have someone else paying him so they can stay under the FFP cap.

Although I agree with this, I’m also relaxed about the situation and willing to be patient.

Ange has us going in a very good direction and the most important thing is that we use the Kane money well, not simply that we use it. I’d rather we keep our powder dry and wait for the right deal than engage in panic buys for the sake of the optics.

The key test will be how Levy backs Ange over the next two to three windows, not just the next two days.
True but if we sign no one tomorrow or Friday and don’t shift many of the deadwood then that won’t bode well for how levy will ‘back’ Ange in the following windows will it? It’ll just end he same as these types of last minute collapsing deals as usual.

Happy considering it was a dry loan

No interest in us acting as a get our players fit club

If he has been any good Barca would have taken him back or Chelsea would have just bought him

Could easily have been us pulling out
Yep that’s the key takeaway from this situation. We’ve managed it beautifully 🤔

im astounded anyone is surprised....its been that way for the last 10 years of transfer windows with Mr Byrite in charge...same shit each time

Was just going to post something similar. I'm not at all surprised with what we are seeing with just over 48 hours left of the window. Will not be shocked if we end up bringing in nobody in although leaning towards Levy pushing something over the line for Johnson right at the death so the final thought people are left with is he has delivered a signing.

It obvious that we didn't want a straight loan, not sure this warrants such a meltdown. With all due respect, journalists and ITKs don't know all the details, don't believe everything.

We don’t need another left winger at the minute anyway.

We should bide our time if the right player isn’t apparent or available. It’s not like we’re going to have much fixture congestion this season anyway. Some fans just seem to want to sign the next new shiny player, and will then give the club / Levy grief when it doesn’t work out.
Son is in same form as last year afraid to take a player on nowadays god knows what happened and perisic is well peresic. Imo I thought Fati would give us a better dimension and would apply significant pressure on son and Kulu we may have seen son shift to 9 as an alt option. So yes actually we need a good quality winger because at the moment I see the same old same old with Kulu and Son I’ll even go as far as say Son and Kulu won’t score more than 20 goals this season which is laughable in the new way we are playing

Brighton have taken him in a straight loan. No option. I'm glad we pulled out of that's the case. We need a RW and a CB though. The club needs to get the finger out

True, this would all be ok if we acted like a big club with a plan and easily pivoted and/or had enough time to pivot to a different option but we never do which is why there is so much frustration when deals like this collapse with 2 days to go of the window.

We won’t bring anyone in now and the excuse will be because we’ve too many players. Can see it coming a mile off. Ange’s comments post match told me that.

so 2 days to go, and Levy has sold our best ever striker for 100M and not replaced him....another coach thrown under the bus by him and ENIC..
I really don't know why this surprises anyone, we have seen it all before. we hire managers and don't give them the tools to succeed. Ange will be another manager who (eventually) leaves and says the club don't have ambition.

A deal which we literally didn't know was on until today collapsed with two days left. What are we frustrated about exactly?
