True, this would all be ok if we acted like a big club with a plan and easily pivoted and/or had enough time to pivot to a different option but we never do which is why there is so much frustration when deals like this collapse with 2 days to go of the window.
Well Brighton have seemingly done a deal in the space of a few hours. So nothing stopping us.

Two days to go folks - we were told it was going to be crazy.

So I take this situation to be either:
1) Levy tried to squeeze more out of a deal in some way last minute and Barca and Fati said “fuck it. Let’s have a year on the beach”
2) spurs and Levy were played by Barca and Fati
3) Levy was lining up something bigger and better in the shadows and is about to pull the trigger
4) was all media speculation all along and ITKs got caught up in The crossfire.

I personally think it’s 1 or 2. Both of which, regardless of intent, equally pathetic and leave us fucked if true. If it’s 3 then fair plays my Bessie Danny L.

massive 48 hrs for “COYS, Daniel” but then how many times have we said that before?
5) Brighton made a better (for Barca) offer. So they (Barca) pivoted. Fati would on balance rather play in some kind of Europe this year to showcase talents and potentially get a bigger move next year so is fine with it. Mendes loves the outcome, as I assume he'll get paid for this loan, then again next summer.

It obvious that we didn't want a straight loan, not sure this warrants such a meltdown. With all due respect, journalists and ITKs don't know all the details, don't believe everything.
Maybe, and I’m just spitballing here, but it could be because we sold our best player weeks ago and have achieved absolutely nothing since. Another idea is it could be because we’ve seen the ‘we tried but ran out of time’ movie before

Huh. I guess not signing wide men to go along with not signing another striker makes a certain amount of sense. Symmetry innit.

Would genuinely love to know what DL did. Would also like to see what deal Brighton have. I may have it wrong but if Barca didn’t want to lose him then a club offering him game time for no risk of losing him is a better bet from a “seller” perspective.

Anti-DL or not, surely you can all see that?
There’s no doubt that in this particular transfer there are pros and cons and we may have made a reasonable decision.

My biggest frustration though is why are we messing around with these sorts of deals when there is so so much that needs to be done in so little time.

I know you like to take the considered view but surely you can see that we are being left short time and time again with these owners approach to transfers??

How? The only thing surprising about this to me is that people are surprised by it. This is very on-brand for a Levy transfer window.
Because I was told it was done and he was travelling tomorrow. That's why I'm astounded. Then last minute Levy has done a Levy and Brighton have swooped in. That's enough for tonight anyway, think I'll keep quiet until after the window now as even when we're told something is done, something like this can happen. The bits I've been getting were pretty solid at the start of the window but it's all over the place at the minute so I'll just sit back and moan when we're left short once again with a bloated squad.

So there you go. No option, so why would we bother developing Barca's player with no opportunity to buy. Melting down over this is ridiculous.

Ornstein doesn’t sound particularly convinced we were close either. If we were he’d stick the boot in with delight.

5) we were pushing for an option, as per how you'd expect us to, and Brighton have slid in offering nothing at all. Barca want to hold the player's contract rather than let anyone else have a poke, and so have gone for that as they keep hold of him and the short term need was only to have someone else paying him so they can stay under the FFP cap.
Yeah I’d guess heavily it was this one with a side of Mendes letting the world know to draw competition.

None of us expected Fati yesterday, looks like we tried to get a good deal and it fell through because of a clause that we couldn’t accept but Brighton could, we move on.

Love your optimism mate, personally I think we need a CB, RW and ST and I cannot see us getting all of that.

ITK said we wanted Johnson and Fati, Fati is no more and Johnson seems a hard deal to do.

Would you be happy if we just signed Johnson, think that is enough firepower for top4 and a good FA cup run?

We rarely make any good signings last minute in the final day or 2 so I just think we will be left short again mate.

Hope I’m wrong.

This is the point I've been trying to make in other threads.

I do not like Daniel Levy. I do not like ENIC. I want them both to fuck off.

However, so many people on this site apply no logic to criticisms of Levy and constantly rewrite history, which make said criticisms seem nonsensical and undermines the whole ENIC Out stuff.

We know Fati isn't Ange's first choice. Very few people on here actually wanted him. Even fewer on a straight loan.

Yet look at the number of people shaking their fists at Levy? It literally makes no sense?

100% agree that we should be doing better this window to replace Kane, as I've said a number of times. Also baffled at the lack of a 2nd CB signing.

But if people put in loads of work into this transfer and Levy said no at the end because there was no buy option, then good. One of his better transfer decisions.

It was after the Fulham game when he heard the fans sing “we’ve got our Tottenham back”, he thought right I’ll show them!!!

Actually think last night showed us that we probably need a cm alternative to biss, am alternate to madders and lb alternate to udogie more than anything else.

Last line of Atletic article is 'Tottenham have also been considering a move for Fati.'

As others have said, I cant see us accepting just a loan deal. But above line doesnt seem like its a done deal either for Brighton

I have no idea - this is all super rollercoastery.

Can’t control any of it; can’t get upset about it.
