Supposedly signing Fabio Vieira from Porto for around £35m. Anyone know much about him? Wonder if that is a Tielemans alternative.

If he's a more attacking midfielder then surely it wouldn't be a priority with Odegaard and Smith-Rowe already at the club.
Ah that does seem to be a good signing for them.

A few guys I trust on European football say he's very reminiscent of Bernardo Silva.

Saw him for Porto and he's a brilliant playmaker in the final 3rd.

Not too scary, he's also not ready for the PL physically, but definitely not pleased to see him go there.

Seems odd. They need a striker and a more robust cm. This guy is neither.
Seems like Arteta is going the Pep route by loading that forward line with technically gifted playmakers. I still think they'll sign Jesus and Tielemans on top of this guy which would represent a good window for them all things considered.

This all good and well when you have players like rodri behind them. They are putting a lot of faith in xhaka and partey. If artetas plan is to have a powderpuff midfield, then they will just crumble.

Bernardo is a cracking player so would be annoying if he got to that level. Slightly strange with them already having a bit of depth in AM.

I assume they have a pretty decent budget to spend if they buy Tielemans and Jesus on top of this.

Looks like they are targeting talented but lightweight players. Works for Man City I suppose so can see why Lego Pep would go down this route.

I'm confident we'll be better than Arsenal this season, but they are making some good signings.
I've been running my mouth hard on twitter, so could be in for a real beating if we aren't.

Yeah I agree - this feels a lot like Bryan Gil 2.0, which is to say IF he ends up being as good as promised, it'll be a year or two down the road. Far too late to keep the likes of Saka/Martinelli hanging around.

I also am pretty confident that regardless of how good he gets, he'll be the next Pepe/Sailiba in the eyes of their supporters - star in waiting ("just wait until he's ready then position X is sorted"), without the onfield track record to back it up.

He could still be really good someday mind you! But if Arteta's goal is to keep the project hype train going then this is the type of signing you make as opposed to someone who could make a difference this season.

Isn't their soft defence their massive weakness at the moment? And they are stocking up on attacking players. Don't think they'll be a concern for us next season.

They probably need better back-up for Tierney but if you listen to most of their fans they're pretty happy with their defensive options, albeit that's partially because their fanbase overhypes every player they have by a ridiculous degree.

Looks a great signing in isolation, but he's 5'6. In addition to the likely signings of Jesus and Tielemans - plus Saka, Odegaard etc - Arse are surely on course to be the tiniest & least physically robust team in the league (arguably already were tbh, but they're looking to take it to a new level here).

I find it a strange course of direction. Does Arteta realise that we're no longer in 2010?

It is rather hilarious how every signing they've made is to fuel this 'Arteta is building City 2.0' hype around a utopian future in which they play beautiful, advanced, cutting-edge possession/pressing football with technical players interchanging.

Meanwhile in reality they're lingering in 5th or 6th and continue to miss out on the top quality players in Europe.

I can't lie and say they are no threat whatsoever. But it feels like it all rests on Arteta's system being genius, which I don't think it is.

That's crazy. They really will be brutalised in the NLD next season against Conte's beasts.

They always do the same thing, sign tiny little attackers who score some great goals and look good on MOTD but whenever they come up against a physical team they just absolutely melt.

They need to sign someone who actually has some bollocks, as opposed to another 5’3 lad who can do stepovers and wear the latest kit made out of recycled tube seats.

They haven't signed anyone of note as yet.

They're not receiving major money for any players they want to sell, e.g. Torreira which means they have 5 CMs already.

Before they buy anyone, they have to manage the payments on the £300m they've committed on transfers since 2019.

Re FV, he was obviously being punted about by his agent as there were stories linking us and Manure to him today. If it is a release clause then that's money that will have to come from another loan (like Partey) with who knows what interest rate.

A big deal was made of reducing the salary bill which was unsustainable without CL, however Saka and EMS have already had rises. To keep Nketiah they've offered him £100kpw, if Jesus comes in they'll be at the maximum again. No way they can offer Saka or ESM big deals without CL.

Another day, another AFTV embarrassment. Already bleating about rigged fixtures. The fear of going to Palace is real.

He’s such an idiot. On paper there are much harder games they could have got.
Also the thing about the last games of the season being rigged is nonsense, just like here wouldn’t be a Manchester derby on the last day there also wouldn’t be a North London derby....dickhead.
